Broc Feeney claimed second win of DUNLOP Sydney 500 weekend yesterday
Plastic water packaging dislodged in Red Bull Ampol Ford in first stint
Feeney poked fun at debris on social media, in press conference
All Broc Feeney wanted on a hot and difficult day in the car was water.
How ironic that water packaging nearly derailed his hopes of a second victory at the DUNLOP Sydney 500.
The Red Bull Ampol Racing star defied rain, carnage and Kai Allen to claim victory on Sunday, helping Feeney leave Sydney tied at the top on points.
After cool suit issues, Feeney cut a hot and bothered figure in PIRTEK Victory Lane after the race, requiring medical intervention amid his media and podium commitments.
It was a tougher outcome for teammate Will Brown, who went to the medical centre via ambulance.
Feeney’s Ford Mustang suffered overheating of its own in the opening stint, due to errant debris in the form of plastic water bottle packaging.
The debris was removed at Feeney’s first stop, but Triple Eight boss Jamie Whincup quipped during the race that engine temperatures were three degrees from becoming critical.
The irony wasn’t lost on Feeney, who commented on a post of the debris in the car to Supercars’ social media channels: "Hope someone enjoyed [their] 24 pack of water cause I didn’t.”
Speaking after the race, Feeney doubled on the humour of the incident: "I was pushing super hard amongst all the stuff that we had going on.
"I mean, I was overheating, the car was overheating, thanks to some bloke’s 24 pack of water.
"Anyway, we got that out… it felt like at the start nothing was really going right for us except we had a fast race car.”
Feeney is level on 259 points with Penrite Racing’s Matt Payne heading to the next round in Melbourne.
