Broc Feeney’s second win of the DUNLOP Sydney 500 was hard earned, with the Red Bull Ampol star fighting through a cool suit issue.
Feeney defeated Kai Allen and the elements to claim career win No. 28, and his second of the weekend, in oppressive conditions.
Western Sydney heat reared its head all weekend, and as rain and humidity circled around Sydney Motorsport Park, Sunday’s race was tough work.
It was even tougher for Feeney, who battled with cool suit issues through the race.
The #88 Red Bull Ampol Ford itself battled overheating due to an errant plastic water bag, which was removed at Feeney's first pit stop.
In PIRTEK Victory Lane, Feeney was attended to by team and medical staff before he found enough strength and was interviewed by broadcaster Jess Yates.
“In the first couple of laps I’m like, ‘man, I’m getting heated’,” an exhausted Feeney said.
"My body was getting hotter and I could feel the tubes warming up my body.
“I was playing around with it and then obviously we got the plastic bag in the front, so the car was overheating as well.
“After the Safety Car I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it worked for about a lap, but after that I had Kai all over me so I couldn’t keep doing it.”
After the race, Feeney managed to find some relief, before he sat on the ground in victory lane. Medical staff also followed Feeney to the BP Cooldown room before the podium celebrations.
“I did it again on the in-lap and it started cooling me down again. It’s obviously hot here today, I worked hard for that one,” the 23-year-old added.
“I worked hard for that one… sorry I’m so cooked but I had nothing left there at the end. Sorry I couldn’t do a burnout for all the Ford fans as well.”
Feeney and Matt Payne are level on points heading to Melbourne in two weeks' time.
