Ojeda doubles up in final Friday Bend practice

Jayden Ojeda has backed up his strong Practice 1 speed, ending Friday at the AirTouch 500 at The Bend as the fastest driver.

The PremiAir Racing rookie, who will drive with David Russell in the #31 Chevrolet, continued his strong Friday form with a late flyer to edge out Team 18's Anton De Pasquale in a closely fought 30-minute session.

Chevrolet as a whole were impressive in the final Friday session, though all three manufacturers showed glimpses of speed throughout the half hour.

There were a mix of primary and co-drivers to start the session, with Mark Winterbottom, Reuben Goodall, Fabian Coulthard, Jaxon Evans, and Harri Jones driving their respective entries out of pit lane.

Broc Feeney was fastest early on a 1:17.4480s, but was quickly usurped by a swarm of Chevrolets, who flexed their muscle late on Friday afternoon.

Both Erebus Motorsport and Matt Stone Racing entries were firmly in the top seven, but it was Anton De Pasquale who led the way for the majority of the session on a 1:16.7289s, the first driver to dip below a 1:17s lap time.

De Pasquale's marker was almost three and a half tenths of a second up on Jack Le Brocq in second, though De Pasquale dived back into the lane after his fast mid-session run with a suspected exhaust issue.

Camaros filled the top five entering the final minutes, with David Reynolds, Cooper Murray, and Jobe Stewart rounding out the top five ahead of the last run of qualifying simulations.

There was a close call in pit lane before the final runs, as Red Bull Ampol Racing pushed Broc Feeney's Mustang out into the path of Chaz Mostert, who had to slam on the brakes to avoid contact.

Murray went second on a 1:16.8300s, the first of a flurry of times that saw drivers improve. Will Brown then went second on a 1:16.7946s, before there was movement at the top of the order.

Kai Allen moved into P1 on a 1:16.6928s, before Ojeda went better with a 1:16.4702s, a benchmark that wouldn't be beaten, despite De Pasquale improving on his final lap to a 1:16.5410s.

Ryan Wood leapt up to third in his Toyota, just over a tenth down on Ojeda, whilst Brodie Kostecki made it all three manufacturers in the top four, just 0.16s off the pace.

Reynolds, Allen, Mostert, Bayley Hall, Matt Payne, and Will Brown rounded out the top 10.

Saturday's Supercars action begins with an additional driver's only practice session at 9:50am local time/10:20am AEST.
