Kiwi racing GT cars in Australia, Asia and beyond in busy programme
Few will have logged as many racing — or flying — miles as Jaxon Evans when Supercars hits the Mountain for the Repco Bathurst 1000.
The New Zealander, who scored his maiden Supercars podium at the AirTouch 500 at The Bend, has seamlessly shifted back into globetrotting, chasing GT race wins.
Evans is dovetailing his Ryco Enduro Cup season with GT World Challenge campaigns in Australia and Asia, while also contesting various endurance races around the world.
All told, Evans has already ticked over 60 flights for the calendar year, and is set to breach over 200,000 kilometres travelled when he arrives in Bathurst.
After racing to third with Ryan Wood at The Bend, Evans slotted back into his Ferrari for the GTWCA event at Sydney Motorsport Park last weekend.
This week, he will fly to China, where he will contest the Shanghai 8 Hours and the GT World Challenge Asia round in Beijing. He will then return to Australia on the Monday of Bathurst week, where he will jet across to the Mountain.
“I mean, I don't dislike flying! It's weird. I know a lot of people that hate flying. But you get so used to it,” Evans told Supercars.com.
“You just get into your routine with how you travel. Luckily enough, when we're flying overseas, it's generally in business class to try and ensure that we’re race ready when we land.
"I think that's the only way to make sure that you're not doing yourself any disadvantage by the extra travel if you’re arriving at a place, not so much jet lag, but tired from the travel.”
Evans kicked off a busy year with an appearance in the Tim Miles Memorial Trophy at Highlands, where he drove a Formula Atlantic car in tribute of his late countryman. He then tackled February's Bathurst 12 Hour, before driving a McLaren at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival.
GT World races followed at Phillip Island, Sepang, Mandalika, The Bend, Ipswich, Fuji, Darwin and Okayama, while he also contested the Sahlen’s 6 Hours of The Glen in the American IMSA series.
Sandwiched in between was his standout drive at The Bend, which was a high point in Supercars after two fruitless seasons in the Brad Jones Racing/SCT Motorsport entry across 2024 and 2025.
“It was a pretty cool moment,” Evans said of the podium.
“It’s not that I didn't think the success would come as quick as it did, but I slogged away for two years and didn’t really see any competitive results. A couple of top 10s was all I could take away from that. So to go out, do my first race in the Toyota with Walkinshaw TWG and be on the podium was such a relief, such a cool feeling.
“The response from everyone that has supported me up until this point has been really strong as well. It just felt like everything came together.”
One of the busiest drivers on the 2026 enduro grid — only Nash Morris, Jarrod Hughes, Will Davison and Todd Hazelwood had started more races this year, albeit all domestically — Evans shone in trying conditions at The Bend, and handed over to Wood in a commanding position.
"I don't think anyone's driven in worse conditions, at least in a Supercar,” Evans said.
"The Bend is such a high-grip track in the dry, but when it's wet, there's so much standing water. When you've heaps of power under your right foot and a very skinny tyre, it makes it pretty dicey.
“Leaning on that full-time experience definitely helped. Around the guys that I was racing, even when I was left out with some of the main drivers, I felt more than comfortable, because I was racing them last year anyway.”
The lure of Supercars remains. However, when asked if he’s happy to continue racing around the world, Evans replied: "Yeah, it's still sort of my plan at the moment. I love doing what I'm doing, and I love racing just in general.
“If the opportunity to come back to Supercars full time arose, and it was the right team and what I think is the best fit, then I certainly would entertain that idea.
"But for the moment, especially this year, the way that my calendar's planned out, racing basically every other weekend in GT cars and doing a bit of travel overseas is really cool, so that's my priority at the moment.
“But you never say never because you don't know who's gonna pick up the phone and call.”
Evans will commence his Repco Bathurst 1000 campaign on Thursday October 8.
