Why Love hasn't given up on Supercars dream

Aaron Love knows that second chances are hard to come by in the Supercars world.

That's why his second coming in the DUNLOP Super2 Series, facilitated by Eggleston Motorsport, is an opportunity he knows he needs to execute upon.

This time, it's a more battle-hardened Love to the one that parted company with Blanchard Racing Team just one round into the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship.

Away from the Supercars spotlight, Love has quietly been building a strong network around him, headlined by two-time Supercars champion Marcos Ambrose, who ran the West Australian in Trans Am last year.

But, having had a brief 29-race taste of the main game with a BRT operation that was experiencing growing pains, Love wants back in, no matter what form it takes.

"The short answer is yes. I would absolutely love to be back in Supercars," Love responded when Supercars.com asked if a 2027 Supercars seat was the end goal.

"Whether that's a main game full season drive, that would be the ultimate end result, but as everyone knows, and I think I know quite well myself, that it's one thing being there and it's very tough being there.

"But, it's a very hard game and it's another thing getting there in itself. You know, there's a lot of drivers that try for a long amount of time and never get there.

"If it's a main game drive full-time, enduro co-driver, wildcard, whatever it be I'd absolutely love to do it.

"Right now it's just about working on myself and making sure that I can put myself in those situations to really build on getting those opportunities if they come.

"I know that I have that confidence that I'm prepared, and I can put my best foot forward and perform on the day."

The Super2 deal came about in short time, Love and Ben Eggleston opening initial discussions in the paddock at Darwin, where Love was contesting Carrera Cup.

Currently fourth in the Carrera Cup standings, Love will focus on his Porsche commitments at Bathurst and Adelaide, but will step back into the #26 Commodore at Sandown in November.

Having sampled international one-make Porsche action earlier in the decade, the 24-year-old admitted that a return to Porsches this year was merely to keep as many doors open as he could amidst Supercars uncertainty.

"At the end of last year and the start of this year I was probably in a bit of a spot where I wasn't sure what the future holds," Love continued.

"I want to keep all of my opportunities open, whether that is to be here in Australia, or if it's to eventually go overseas.

"I guess the gist of it is we all wanna be professional racing car drivers as a living, it's just about kind of what you exactly want to be, so for me doing Porsche Cup this year I feel like keeps those doors open everywhere.

The Eggleston link-up was also a natural fit, given the production line of elite talent that has flowed into Supercars in recent seasons.

"Ben and Rachael have been around for quite a while now, they've put through a lot of young drivers, a lot of successful ones too both past and present," Love explained.

"Kai [Allen] being one of the most recent ones, Brodie [Kostecki] obviously a massive one too, Will Brown as well, there's quite a big list of them, and they've got in a lot of connections with Supercars teams and things like that.

"I've always been good at working with other teams helping drivers and also building on their team program as well, so I think it's just one of those things that felt right at the time for now."

Love will commence his Perth Super2 campaign on Friday July 31.
