Aaron Cameron, James Golding delivered 2-3 results for Blanchard squad
Blanchard Racing Team leads teams' championship, after finishing last in 2026
Golding and Cameron overhauled by winner Broc Feeney on Friday night
After Race 1 of the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship, Blanchard Racing Team lead the Thrifty Teams' Championship. After what we've seen today, it's anything but a fluke.
A dream race win might've gone begging for Aaron Cameron, but that didn't dampen the mood on what was a breakout day for the team at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Having claimed a remarkable front row lockout led by new recruit James Golding, it was his sophomore teammate Aaron Cameron who stole the show, and the race lead, for the first stint of the race.
As Golding gradually fell back to a chasing pack lead by Broc Feeney, Cameron continued to hammer away at the front of the field, never looking in any danger as he cruised at the front of the field.
However, the experience of Red Bull Ampol Racing shone through, as they effectively utilised an undercut for Feeney to vault both BRT Mustangs into a lead he would never lose.
However, you wouldn't guess that a chance had slipped for Cameron in the post-race celebrations, the beaming Victorian elated at claiming his first career podium.
"Bloody awesome, I just didn't think I'd get the start like I did with Jimmy there, and then just tried to control it from there," Cameron said.
"Super pumped to get a podium, but when you're so close to... just that pit call.
"Thanks to everyone here, it's been a lot of big slog from all these guys, it's crazy, so I'm so thankful for them. To get two and three BRT on the podium, it's bloody awesome.
"I was surprised how I actually kept tyres on it, that's the first time I've ever kept the tyres on it, and then when I saw Broc come out in front I just pushed like hell and tried to catch him, but it wasn't enough.
"Still stoked, we get to spray some champagne I believe, and we get a bloody trophy."
When asked what the difference was in the fate of his race, Cameron conceded that if he had pitted before Feeney, the win was right there for the taking.
"I think it was just the pit call, he pitted one lap before us." Cameron said.
"But apart from that, if we'd pitted before him we would've held that gap, I just used my tyre to get to him.
"I think the boys and girls have done an awesome job to get us some speed out of these cars, we've had some pretty bad times, but to come here and start the year with Jimmy fresh, and with podiums, it's frickin' awesome."

In typical Cameron style, when asked about BRT leading the teams' points, he said: "I think it'd be great if we adjusted the pit lane order tonight, if anyone wants to change that around... anyone here from Supercars to organise that?"
Golding meanwhile had to fight for his podium after slipping to fourth in the stop cycle, scything his way by Cam Waters with an impromptu move heading into the final complex with five laps to go.
"It would've been good to win it, but these guys got us on strategy tonight, so we'll look at that overnight. Obviously just a short race so good to get some points and get back on the podium," Golding said.
"It's been unbelievable since the first day I walked in. Honestly I've been in the workshop four or five days, it feels like I've already been there for 12 months.
"Just the culture, the whole environment there, everyone is so nice. It's just a great bunch of people to work with."
Having only achieved two career podiums and a single pole prior to joining BRT, Golding had hoped that success would arrive in a hurry, but with new engineer Tony Woodward another key signing, the pair have pushed the team forward markedly.
However, Golding believes that there is more to come as the year goes on: "Definitely more pace, there's always more pace. But it's a good base to work from.
"When you roll out of the truck quick it makes life a whole lot easier, so we'll just keep on top of it, keep tuning with the track.
"We're on at different times of the day tomorrow, so we'll tune it up for tomorrow no worries."
If there is more pace to be found, the sight of BRT Mustangs at the head of the field might lose it's novelty at a rapid rate.
