Aaron Cameron laments Anton De Pasquale whack
De Pasquale hit put Cameron into teammate James Golding on opening lap
Golding crawled home 22nd, De Pasquale soared to podium
Aaron Cameron has lamented contact from eventual podium finisher Anton De Pasquale that put teammate James Golding out of contention in Townsville.
Golding’s Finals position is precarious after a troubled run to 22nd in Saturday's Race 21, having been forced into the lane on lap 1 after a Turn 2 clash.
As the field barrelled into Turn 2, Golding got into the rear of the sister Blanchard Racing Team Ford of Golding, folding the right rear guard of the #7 entry.
Replays showed De Pasquale, who started from 11th, getting into Cameron, who in turn rammed into Golding in a classic Townsville Turn 2 concertina. Directly behind De Pasquale was Rylan Gray.
A strategic masterclass propelled De Pasquale to second, while Cameron came home 15th after fading through the opening stint.
"I braked for Turn 2 and I was hit into James,” Cameron told Supercars.com of the clash.
Adding insult to injury, BRT struggled with a malfunctioning fuel churn, which had sprung a leak.
Cameron felt for his teammate, and while he traded off the incident as “typical Turn 2, start of the race stuff,” didn’t let Camaro rival De Pasquale off the hook.
“I won’t speak with Anton about it. Like, I'm sure I'll do the same thing probably tomorrow, brake a little bit too deep. It's hard to tell where everyone's braking,” Cameron said.
“It was just a bit too big of a hit, and right where I hit James on that, as he was sort of apex-ing the corner, it’s one of those things.
"It’s alright, at least he got P2, so his parity should be good now.”
In the press conference, De Pasquale said: "There was a big concertina, I got a big whack. I assume the person behind me got a big whack.
"It's pretty easy for someone to miss their brake marker down there. Whoever was the first behind me did that."
Golding is just 19 points ahead of 11th placed Jack Le Brocq, with De Pasquale jumping Kai Allen to fifth in the championship.
