Golding 20 points behind Jack Le Brocq
A wheel gun failure denied James Golding a chance at returning to a provisional Finals spot in Perth.
The Blanchard Racing Team driver returned to form on the final day in Perth, and weathered the storm at the end of the first stint to be on course for a first top 10 since Christchurch.
Instead, a gun failure at the second stop delayed the #7 CoolDrive Ford, with Golding consigned to 14th in the final classification.
Where Golding could have returned to the 10, he just finished ahead of Finals bubble rival Jack Le Brocq, who went off the road in front of the BRT Ford earlier in the race.
Heading to the Repco Sprint Cup finale, Golding is 20 points behind Matt Stone Racing rival Le Brocq.
Promisingly, Aaron Cameron secured his first top 10 finish since Tasmania, lifting him out of the bottom 20.
“We had reasonable pace at times, but struggled to put it together over the weekend,” team boss Tim Blanchard said.
"We didn’t execute well enough on Saturday, but had a long think overnight, changed a few things, and got much more competitive.
“Sunday was a good result for Aaron Cameron in seventh, but we had a wheel gun failure with Jimmy Golding’s car and that cost us two or three places.
“Still, to have both cars back in the Top Ten Shootout on Sunday was good. We’ve done it a few times now and it shows we have pace, so we just need to get better on execution.”
Track action at the next round in Ipswich commences on Friday August 21.
