World reacts to "absolutely insane" 2025 Repco Bathurst 1000

To no surprise, social media lit up following a thrilling 2025 edition of the Repco Bathurst 1000, which captivated viewers in Australia and around the world.
In one of the greatest Supercars races ever and one of the best Bathurst 1000s of all time, Matt Payne and Garth Tander clinched an against-the-odds victory.
The final four hours of the race were held in wet conditions, with incidents, seven Safety Cars and late drama headlining an unforgettable day at the Mountain.
The race delivered a blockbuster result across every platform, with preliminary data confirming the biggest total audience since at least 2017 and the highest streaming numbers in Supercars history. A crowd of 198,203 attendees also attended the event, marking the eighth-largest crowd in event history.
2019 Bathurst winner turned IndyCar star Scott McLaughlin was one of many to celebrate the race, which ABC News labelled as "extraordinary."
"I think that was the best Bathurst 1000 I’ve ever watched. Congrats Matty Payne, @GarthTander and the Groves! Know how much that meant to the family to, very cool," McLaughlin posted to X.
Locally, the race struck a cord, from the thrilling on track action to the exploits of Chaz Mostert, who marked his DNF with a beer alongside fans at The Chase.
Notably, AFL player turned media personality Daniel Gorringe shared the vision to his account, joking: "Tell me this isn't the best and most Aussie thing you'll ever see."
SEN broadcaster Julian King wrote: "The race had it all. It is one of the great tracks in world motor racing, that’s not up for debate. It was the best Bathurst 1000 race I have ever seen."
NZ radio host Jason Pine added: "Unreal drama in the wet at Bathurst. Absolutely compelling stuff. And that broadcast coverage … utterly world class."
ABC's Quentin Hull, meanwhile, said: "Bathurst in a Heavy 10 is a once-a-year Supercars watchers dream."
The race also took the US market by storm, American fans lighting up in comments on the extended highlights on YouTube and on social media.
NASCAR journalist Matt Weaver posted to X: "This is some of the most incredible motorsporting race craft I have consumed in my life."
Motorsport.com's Nick DeGroot added: "Motor racing fans… This is it. It doesn’t get any better than that."
NASCAR racer turned broadcaster Parker Kligerman posted: "That might be one of the best races of the last two decades world-wide. Absolutely insane from start to finish."
