Will Brown admits he hasn’t performed to the levels of 2024 campaign
Reigning champ claims teammate Broc Feeney is doing a “better job"
Feeney leads qualifying head-to-head 11-2, race head-to-head 7-5
Will Brown admits he hasn’t performed to the levels of his title-winning 2024 campaign, claiming teammate Broc Feeney is doing a “better job.”
Feeney seized the championship lead from Triple Eight teammate Brown at the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super 440 earlier this month.
On paper, Feeney has had Brown’s measure, despite Brown sitting ahead in the championship up until Race 12 at Symmons Plains.
Feeney has a commanding 11-2 lead over Brown in the qualifying head-to-head, a striking number given Brown has qualified fifth or better eight times.
Feeney has qualified in the top three for 10 of 13 races, nine of which were front row starts. Both drivers have six podiums, but Feeney has three wins to Brown’s one.
Speaking on the upcoming episode of Drivers Only, which will be released on Friday, Brown hailed Feeney’s performance.
“I probably haven’t performed as good, this year,” Brown said.
“He’s done an awesome job all year. He’s got me [11-2] in qualifying, but I’ve qualified top five [eight] times.
“I feel like this year, he’s doing a better job, he’s stepped up, he’s getting better each year.”
Feeney won the qualifying head-to-head 14-10 last year, while Brown led 14-10 in races, claiming an historic podium at all 12 rounds.
Such is Feeney's form, that Supercars legend Mark Skaife has pencilled the 22-year-old in to take out the Repco Sprint Cup.
When quizzed over whether the pressure has released given he won the championship last year, Brown shut it down, adding: “You definitely do.
“I don’t think the pressure’s off a little bit, you definitely want it as bad. Now, it’s not about wanting the championship again, it's wanting to beat your teammate again.
“Since Broc’s doing such a good job, you’re thinking how can I do a better job to get ahead of him.
“Right now, he’s the benchmark in Supercars, when you look at what he’s doing, his qualifying performances and racing.
Brown, Chaz Mostert and James Courtney headline the latest Drivers Only episode, debating racing rules, incidents from Tasmania, who's top dog at Triple Eight, Walkinshaw Andretti United's Toyota future and more.
Feeney leads Brown by 33 points heading to the next round, the Bosch Power Tools Perth Super 440 on June 6-8. Tickets on sale now.
