Broc Feeney clash nearly cost Cam Waters Triple Crown
"Lucky” Tickford star reveals he was “marginal” in tense Ford clash
Waters clinched Triple Crown ahead of Matt Payne, Kai Allen
Cam Waters admits he was “marginal” in going off the road in a clash with Broc Feeney that could have changed the face of the 2026 betr Darwin Triple Crown.
Waters closed out the 2026 Triple Crown with third in Sunday’s finale, behind winner Anton De Pasquale and Ford rival Matt Payne.
It was a clash with another Ford rival, though, which nearly gifted the trophy to Payne. Feeney attacked Waters for effective third place on lap 48 at Turn 7. Contact sent Waters wide, and Feeney quickly redressed.
Over team radio, Feeney said: “I don’t know, he kept moving across, he just reacted to me.”
In commentary, 2010 Supercars champion James Courtney suggested Waters was “lucky not to go off," while 2007 champion Garth Tander quipped that the “that hole was always going to close."
Waters went on to win the Triple Crown, while Feeney was left seething after a bundled team orders call helped teammate Will Brown finish in front.
Speaking after the race, Waters admitted he was close to running off the road and spinning out in the Feeney skirmish.
“Yeah, it was pretty marginal if I was gonna hold onto it or not, and lucky to not go off the track,” Waters told Supercars’ Equip Super Cool Down Lap podcast.
"If I went off the track, I would've lost spots for sure. So, lucky that didn't happen.”
Waters, who claimed his 19th career win on Friday, added a Darwin Triple Crown victory to marquee wins on the Gold Coast, Townsville and Adelaide.
When asked where his latest win rates, he replied: “Definitely right up there.
“It’s awesome to be able to win that.“Just so proud of my guys for the weekend and all the hard work that they've continued to put in to allow me to win it and do my job.
“We'll definitely go home, celebrate it, and then we'll get back to work.”
Waters moved to third in points after Brodie Kostecki’s withdrawal. The 2026 season resumes in Townsville on July 10-12.
