Will Brown has returned serve at the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super 440, pacing Boost Mobile Qualifying as a number of big names failed to make an impression.

The reigning champion, who lost his points lead on Saturday, emerged fastest ahead of Red Bull Ampol Racing teammate Broc Feeney and Tickford Racing rival Thomas Randle in what was a disrupted session.

Ford stars Chaz Mostert and Brodie Kostecki both failed to progress to Q2, of which the start was delayed by 30 minutes due to a timing system failure.

Anton De Pasquale, Cooper Murray, Ryan Wood, Jaxon Evans, Richie Stanaway and James Golding all progressed, with Cam Waters surviving two wall hits to clinch the final Shootout berth.

Waters kicked off Q1 with a 52.1888s on the first flying laps, before Brown (52.4887s) and Murray (51.4582s) jumped ahead on the second laps.

Cameron Hill (51.2921s) and Brown (51.2934s) led the way through the first runs, with Percat, Feeney, Murray, Jack Le Brocq, Evans, Golding, Kostecki and Kai Allen rounding out the top 10. Waters was 11th, and Mostert 22nd.

Feeney powered to the top with a 50.8542s on the second runs, with Payne (51.1067s) and Randle (51.1529s) just behind. Matt Payne's run to second, however, featured a bizarre tangle with Will Davison through Turn 6.

Down the order, Andre Heimgartner, Kostecki, James Courtney, Aaron Cameron, Mostert and Davison were all knocked out, with Allen sneaking through by 0.0095s.

The top 18 drivers were forced to wait in their cars, however, with timing issues causing a 30-minute delay to proceedings.

Once resolved, all drivers bar Golding and Le Brocq immediately set laps, with Payne quickest after the first laps with a 51.5128s. Brown and Feeney slotted into second and third, while Waters was only 12th after scraping the Armco at Turn 3.

Randle charged on with a 51.0683s, with Murray second on a 51.1538s. Feeney and Brown both jumped ahead, before Randle again fired to the top with a 50.9586s as Waters slotted into seventh. Evans was an impressive fourth ahead of Reynolds. Murray, Waters, De Pasquale, Stanaway and Hill rounded out the 10.

All cars returned for a last-ditch effort to clinch a Shootout berth, with Feeney leading the queue. The Saturday winner went fastest in the first sector, and hit the top with a 50.8057s before immediately being knocked off by Brown's 50.7749s.

Brown lowered his own benchmark to a 50.7620s, with Feeney, Randle, De Pasquale, Murray, Wood, Evans, Stanaway, Golding and Waters rounding out the 10.

Waters beat Payne to the final Shootout spot by just 0.0361s, with Reynolds, Percat, Allen, Fullwood, Jones, Hill and Le Brocq knocked out.

The top 10 drivers will return for the Shootout at 11:55am, which will set the grid for the 78-lap Race 13, which will commence at 2:45pm.
