After a well-behaved weekend in Sydney, Super2 aces are expecting a chaotic return to Tasmania

Round 2 of the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series is set to be a dramatic affair at Symmons Plains Raceway according to the stars of the category.

This year will only mark the third time in series history that Tasmania will play host to a round of the development series, the last of which came in 2018.

Both occasions were littered with incidents throughout, most notably a first lap pile-up in 2017's second race on the run to the hairpin.

Two of Brad Jones Racing's entries (for Macauley Jones and Jack Smith), and Bryce Fullwood's MW Motorsport Falcon were so badly damaged that they were parked for the final two races of a four-race weekend, whilst Mason Barbera was also caught up.

In 2025, none of the 23 drivers have any experience in Supercars machinery at Symmons Plains, save for Blanchard Racing Team rookie Bailey Sweeny who completed a pre-event test at the historic venue.

Following an opening round at Sydney Motorsport Park that saw both races run without any Safety Car intervention, few are expecting that trend to continue at Symmons Plains.

Jordyn Sinni - Race 2 & Round 1 winner, series leader

"The first thing I'm hoping for is that it's going to be dry, every time I've raced down in Tasmania in a go-kart it's been pouring down rain, so honestly just hoping it will be dry.

"Super2 is a very aggressive but clean field, I think we've proved that over the past two years with the minimal amount of Safety Cars compared to years prior.

"There'll be a lot of aggressive racing, but I wouldn't say it's going to be desperate."

Cameron McLeod - Race 1 winner, 2nd in points standings

"It's a bit of a bullring really, similar to Queensland Raceway, I'm quite excited for it.

"It'll be close, so you've got to be on your feet there, and obviously I haven't driven that track yet, but as far as I can see from last year and the nature of the track, it's going to be a bullring and there's going to be damage.

"You've just got to keep your nose clean, if you're out front it should be pretty good, but I think the track is going to be hard to pull away [from other cars].

"I'm actually really excited for the track, it's probably a track that's been on my bucket list to drive for a while because it's so unique, so I'm quite excited about it, and I think it's going to be fantastic."

Ben Gomersall - 3rd in points standings, 1st in rookie standings

"It was very tame at Sydney wasn't it, the whole weekend? But Tassie is a different story, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a bit more action.

"Car positioning there is very important, and really holding your line and making sure you don't get shoved wide. There's definitely a few more things to think about."

Zach Bates - 2024 Super2 Series champion

"Extremely exciting for Super2 to be heading back to Tassie, it will be a first for me too which I'm looking forward to. I think of it as a pretty good replacement for Perth; short, sharp, and fast.

"Tassie has always been a place I've looked forward to racing at, there are a couple of good overtaking opportunities, the biggest of which is Turn 4.

"There have been some epic and wild moments over the years, so looking forward to it tremendously."

Jarrod Hughes - 2024 Super2 rookie of the year

"I think if I said it would be less [chaos than Trans Am] I would be lying wouldn't I? I think it should be a crazy weekend, it's just what the track produces, it just breeds Safety Cars and breeds shunts.

"I think it's gonna be survival of the fittest, and just trying to hang on to it, keep all four wheels on the car, and just make it to the end of the race, but I'm looking forward to it.

"I think they're going to be cool cars and it should be pretty close racing, so it should be a bit of fun."

Campbell Logan - Tasmanian local

"It's always action-packed here at Symmons Plains, and down at the hairpin is always the tightest corner in the country.

"To be able to come here in Super2, which is a crazy category for racing, I'm excited to be able to see what I can do, and use a bit of my local knowledge and see if that will pay off."

Round 2 of the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series will take place at the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super 440 from May 9-11. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
