Dunlop Super2 Series to introduce Gen3 Supercars in 2028
Gen3 ruleset was introduced in Repco Supercars Championship in 2023
2025 Super2 season to conclude in Adelaide on November 27-30
Gen3 cars will be introduced into the Dunlop Super2 Series from 2028, Supercars has confirmed.
The Gen3 ruleset was introduced in Supercars in 2023, and has led to some of the closest competition in the championship’s history.
The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship will be fought between two Chevrolet drivers and two Ford drivers at next weekend's the bp Adelaide Grand Final.
For the first time since 2015, the Champion Manufacturer Award will be decided at the final round, with Chevrolet leading Ford 16-14 with three races remaining.
The 2028 Super2 Series will be the first development series season to feature Gen3 cars, and marks the most significant technical shift in the category’s history.
It comes as four rising stars — Rylan Gray, Zach Bates, Jackson Walls and Jobe Stewart — make the leap into the main game in 2026.
"After considerable consultation with all parties the decision has been made to implement Gen3 cars into the Super2 category for the 2028 season,” Chief Motorsport Officer Tim Edwards said.
"This decision has been made in the best interests of the category and to ensure competitor numbers are as high as possible.
"As evidenced by the number of rookie drivers stepping up to the main series next year, Super2 is and will continue to be the best category to groom our next generation of Supercar drivers.
"Supercars are currently developing specific changes and rules that will be implemented when the Gen3 cars transition to Super2 to ensure costs are controlled and also enable independent teams to be as competitive as possible.
"Details on operational costs for Gen3 cars will also provided to all Super2 Teams in the near future to allow accurate business planning.”
The 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series will conclude at the bp Adelaide Grand Final on November 27-30.
