Rylan Gray has near-perfect podium record in 2025 Super2 Series
Tickford teenager leads standings by 57 points heading to Ipswich
Gray claimed two third place finishes in Townsville
Although he may only be 18 years old, Rylan Gray has driven a season defined by maturity in the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series.
In a season highlighted by a breakthrough lights-to-flag win in Race 3 at Symmons Plains and a debut in the Repco Supercars Championship, the teenager has been remarkably consistent.
The #55 Mustang has finished on the podium in five out of six races this year, the exception being ninth in Race 2 at Sydney. The next best strike rate is Gray's teammate Reuben Goodall, who has been on the podium three times.
Gray's rookie season last year was defined by inconsistency, with the highs of becoming the youngest Super2 round winner in history at the Bathurst 1000 being tempered by round results like 14th at Sandown, though he did finish the best of Tickford's three cars in sixth.
With a season's experience under his belt and an extra car added to Gray's assault, consistent results at the front of the pack are what Gray is targeting in the final three rounds of the 2025 campaign.
"Yeah definitely, last year we were super inconsistent, we'd have good rounds, then have bad rounds," said Gray at the post-event press conference.
"That's the focus this year, to put everything forward and try to have a good round every round, stay in that top five.
"To win a championship, you've always got to be up the front, I think the goal this year is top fives every round, and we should be close to that at the end."
Two third place finishes at Townsville saw the NSW Hunter Valley talent consolidate his series lead, with a 48 point lead becoming 54 points, however he admitted failing to convert two front row starts was disappointing.
"I'd say I'm a bit disappointed to say the least, but to be disappointed on a weekend where you get third is probably a good thing.
"Lochie didn't put a foot wrong all weekend, two poles, two wins, you can't really do much better than that, so credit to him. I had some good battles with Reubs, so it was good.
"I think I wanted more from the weekend, but happy to come home third."
Getting the car off the line proved a particular challenge for the teenager on Sunday, which allowed both Goodall and Jobe Stewart to make their way by in the opening corners of the race.
It would take Gray six laps to pass Stewart for third, but by that stage Dalton and Goodall were already well clear at the head of the field.
"I really need to focus on starts at the test day because I'm really not good at them.
"Didn't really get a good one today, fell back to fourth, and then had to pass Jobe, but I knew our car speed was phenomenal compared to the rest of the field, so just worked him, got past him, and tried to chase down the other guys at the end there.
"I wish we had 10 more minutes because I think it would've got a bit dicey, but it was good to come home."
Round 4 of the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series will be held at the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 from August 8-10. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
