Jordyn Sinni's Sunday DNF caps off Townsville nightmare for Eggleston
Zero points day sent Round 1 winner tumbling out of top 10 in points
Sinni chasing major backing for next round in Ipswich
Amid a torrid weekend for Eggleston Motorsport in Round 3 of the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series, Jordyn Sinni experienced yet more mechanical woes to continue his luckless run.
Eggleston experienced one of their worst weekends in recent memory, with Zach Bates their best performing driver after claiming a lowly 12th for the round.
Capping off a miserable weekend, Sinni retired from Sunday's finale after the car threw a belt in the engine bay, sending temperatures under the bonnet soaring and forcing both team and driver's hand before catastrophic damage was inflicted.
"Coming around the last corner, the engine just got to 138 degrees," said Sinni after climbing out of the #54 Commodore.
"The lap before there was a bit of smoke come inside the cabin, then later on towards the end of the lap I could feel the engine heat, and then you look at the engine and it was 138 like I said. I don't know."
It has been a wretched run for the 22-year-old, who emerged from the opening round in Sydney as a surprise championship leader after claiming his maiden race win.
However, Tasmania would prove catastrophic for Sinni, who battled with power steering problems throughout the weekend, and finished Saturday's race with his car ablaze as he returned to the paddock.
Long-time backers Car City were also notable in their absence from the side of Sinni's Commodore over the Townsville weekend, with the Round 1 winner admitting the search for backing is on for Round 4 at Ipswich.
"Thank you to the partners who stayed loyal this weekend. Our deep think for QR is to find a major sponsor, and we'll see what we can do," Sinni said in a social media video.
The Melburnian has now sunk down to 12th in the standings, some 282 points behind Tickford's Rylan Gray, and is eager to arrest the slide at Queensland Raceway next month.
"I must have walked under a ladder or I don't know what I've done, but Queensland is only three weeks away so we'll bounce back then."
Round 4 of the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series will be held at the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 from August 8-10. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
