Jarrod Hughes has been ruled out of Sunday's Dunlop Super2 Series action at the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 following a heavy accident in the opening race today.
Hughes was running 13th on the second lap of the race when he was clobbered by an out of control Mason Kelly at Turn 3 on the second lap of the race.
Kelly speared into the driver's side of the #118 Commodore, fortunately just behind the driver's door, taking both cars out on the spot and inflicting heavy damage.
Hughes gingerly climbed out of the car, and was taken to hospital for precautionary checks before returning to the track, however Image Racing have since confirmed he will take no further part for the weekend.
An Erebus Academy/Image Racing social media statement read: "So relieved to see [Jarrod Hughes] and [Mason Kelly] okay after that massive incident in Race 1 here at QR."
"Image Racing would like to put note to how safe these cars are to provide no serious injuries to our drivers. "Unfortunately the damage sustained to Jarrod’s car is unrepairable here at the track. This means he will not take part in any of tomorrow’s events."
Kelly's #22 Mustang is being worked on by the Kelly Racing crew, who are set for a late night with Boost Mobile Qualifying to start at 9:45am tomorrow morning.
Hughes and Kelly weren't the only Saturday casualties, with Eggleston pilot Bradi Owen a retirement due to a gearbox failure and teammate Elliott Cleary a non-starter due to a wrist injury.
Triple Eight Race Engineering are also working into the night, with Jackson Walls' Commodore undergoing an engine change.
Rylan Gray remains the provisional winner of today's race, with a Safety Car restart breach still under investigation.
