Brodie Kostecki blazes to Bathurst pole in enthralling Shootout
Kostecki leads all-Ford top four, Broc Feeney lead Camaro in fifth
2025 Repco Bathurst 1000 to commences at 11:45am AEDT
As it was in 2023 and 2024, Brodie Kostecki was again the class of the field in a stunning Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at the Repco Bathurst 1000.
Kostecki nailed a 2:04.0413s to fall just short of his Friday Gen3 record of 2:04.0307s, with Cam Waters, Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood completing the first all-Ford top four since 1990.
Kostecki joined Allan Moffat and Peter Brock in an exclusive club of three consecutive Great Race poles.
"It's just amazing honestly, that in lap was something special seeing all the fans, and getting all the cheers over the fence," said Kostecki, who claimed his fourth pole of the season.
"I could definitely see a lot of DJR fans and Shell V-Power fans, and a lot of Ford fans out there, so I hope you cheer us on tomorrow.
"We're starting off the best possible spot we can, so can't wait to share the car with Toddy [Hazelwood, co-driver] tomorrow."
The track was bathed in beautiful Bathurst sunshine on Saturday afternoon, and Thomas Randle kicked off the action with a 2:04.7354s.
In response, 2011 Bathurst winner Nick Percat went quicker across the top of the Mountain, but a lock-up into Murray's Corner dropped the #10 Bendix Camaro 0.7s behind.
Cameron Hill went marginally quicker across the top, but even after getting around the final corner better than his teammate, still wound up 0.149s behind Randle.
Two-time Great Race pole winner Waters went next, and wasted no time going fastest through Reid Park. To Forrest's Elbow, he was 0.4s up the road, and closed out a 2:04.2173s to put his rivals on notice.
Another two-time pole-sitter at the Mountain, Chaz Mostert, flew through Sector 1. However, he lost ground to Forrest's Elbow and closed out a 2:04.3582s to slot in just 0.140s behind. Regardless, it was a strong
Cooper Murray carried Erebus Motorsport's hopes of a third consecutive Bathurst 1000 pole, and left nothing on the table as he climbed the hill. However, he lost time across the top, and slotted into provisional third after a rapid run down the Mountain.
Two days after Harri Jones crashed his #18 DEWALT Camaro, Anton De Pasquale set about getting redemption for Team 18, but dropped into provisional sixth with a 2:04.9111s.
Hunting just his second Supercars career pole, Ryan Wood soared through the first sector, but caught the grass across the top. It proved costly, with Wood dropping into third with a 2:04.4426s.
It left Feeney and Kostecki with Waters' 2:04.2173s to chase, with the former eyeing off a 15th pole of 2025, and first in the Great Race.
A pole-sitter at the 2024 Bathurst 500, Feeney caught an oversteer moment at Hell Corner, and charged on in attempt to make up the lost time. Close to the wall at the grate and aggressive over the kerb in The Esses, Feeney closed out a 2:04.5940s, slotting into provisional fourth.
And so, it was a story of Brodie versus the Mountain, with history on the line. Kostecki kept understeer at bay through Hell Corner, and from there, he was perfect for a third year in a row.
It completed a top 10 of Kostecki, Waters, Mostert, Wood, Feeney, Murray, Randle, Hill, De Pasquale and Percat.
Supercars return to the track on Sunday morning for the 20-minute Warm Up at 8:30am AEDT, before the race gets underway at 11:45am.
