Jordan Sinni escapes from post-race fire in Super2 paddock
Erstwhile Super2 points leader climbed from 11th to sixth in Race 1
Damage incurred in race likely triggered minor fire on car's left-rear
Jordyn Sinni may have lost his Super2 points lead in the Tasmania opener, but quick thinking prevented his car going up in flames.
The Eggleston Motorsport driver climbed from 11th to sixth in Race 1 at the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super 440, which was won by Rylan Gray.
Tickford Autosport driver Gray took the points lead from Sinni, with the duo separated by just 15 points heading into Sunday's action.
However, biff and barge during the race saw Sinni arrive in the Super2 paddock with his car ablaze, triggering a smart reaction from crew members to put out the flames.
Sinni was caught up in a wild run down the back straight on the opening lap, nearly getting turned across the nose of Nash Morris, and also making contact with Jackson Walls at Turn 6 when he got to the end of the back straight.
In-car cameras caught Sinni's car with smoke in the cabin after the lap one skirmish, however the smoke had appeared to clear as the race wore on.
Sinni quickly alighted from the car and was unharmed, with the Victorian hailing the response.
"I don't know what happened out there, I just came together with someone," Sinni told Supercars.com.
"Something started burning... I'm not too sure what it was. It actually smelt like panel rubbing on the rubber.
"And then when I came back in and got out of the car, I turned around and it caught fire.
"Thanks to the other guys who quickly ran over and put it out for me. It's a shame. But we'll wrap a new one on and go back out there tomorrow."
The 22-year-old expects his car to full repaired and wrapped in time for Sunday's action, with Sinni determined to get his points lead back.
"I feel like it was a good recovery drive, moved forward five or six spots," Sinni continued.
"Hopefully we can clean it up and go again tomorrow."
On-track action for the Dunlop Super2 Series continues tomorrow with what is set to be a historic day in the development series' 25th anniversary season.
