Garry Rogers Motorsport humbled by special tributes
Supercars Hall of Famer Rogers passed away last week
GRM operated in Supercars between 1996 and 2019
The team that continues to bear Garry Rogers's name has thanked the Supercars community for the outpouring of support and tributes following the Hall of Famer's passing.
Rogers passed away last week. He was 80.
News of his death struck a chord with the Supercars community, which was setting up for the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.
Teams quickly responded with a series of sticker tributes for Rogers, who operated a Supercars team between 1996 and 2019. Erebus Motorsport ran tributes on their cars' windscreens, while stickers were designed and applied to all cars from Friday.
A moment's silence was held before Saturday's race, with several drivers, teams and paddock figures wearing colourful attire, just as Rogers did in his long run in the sport. Former GRM employees also wore team apparel.
A touching tribute video, covering Rogers's life and narrated by Aaron Noonan, was also produced.
In the wake of the tributes, Garry Rogers Motorsport expressed its gratitude in the tributes, with Rogers' impact still being felt to this day.
Notably, three former GRM drivers in Garth Tander, Lee Holdsworth and James Golding stood on the Repco Bathurst 1000 podium earlier this month.
"A massive thank you to the entire Supercars community for their support over the weekend," the team posted.
"There are many former and current graduates from GRM amongst the paddock, and it was a fantastic reminder to the impact Garry has had on Australian motorsport."
Rogers's funeral on Thursday November 6, while a private event, will be live-streamed. A link will be provided on the day.
