Supercars makes minor changes to Finals Series format
Bonus points increase confirmed for 2026 bp Adelaide Grand Final
Eliminated Finals drivers to revert to original points
Supercars has made minor regulations changes to the Finals Series format, which are set to recognise top performers and encourage further movement in the standings.
Confirmed in the release of the 2026 Operations Manual, two tweaks have been locked in ahead of the new season, which features the second running of the Finals Series.
The Repco Supercars Championship will again be split into a Repco Sprint Cup, Ryco Enduro Cup and Repco Supercars Finals Series this season.
For 2026, two points-related changes have been made to the Finals format, as explained below.
Grand Final bonus points increase

The first change is an increase in the bonus points awarded ahead of the bp Adelaide Grand Final.
The change brings the Grand Final in line with the first two Finals rounds, the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 and Penrite Oil Sandown 500.
In 2025, the leader for the Gold Coast and Sandown rounds arrived with a 150-point bonus, with second receiving 120, third 96 and fourth 78. For Adelaide, the weightings were 50-30-15-0.
From 2026, all three Finals rounds will employ the 150-120-96-78 bonus weightings system.
“They’re only subtle changes, but we're bringing the Grand Final in line with the points gaps that we used in the previous two Finals rounds,” Supercars’ Chief Motorsport Officer Edwards told Supercars.com.
“We want to recognise the top performers. When you look at Broc, because of the extra points, he went into Gold Coast and he came out the other side still in the lead.
“Then the extra points he went into Sandown with helped him come out of Sandown still in the lead. It's the same philosophy — we don’t want it to simply be a ‘win and you’re in’ approach.”
Eliminated Finals driver revert to original points

The other change is that the battle for fifth in the standings will stay alive for all drivers up until the last race.
Under previous rules, eliminated Finals Drivers remained on points resets — 3000 at Gold Coast, and 4000 at Sandown — plus additional seeding bonuses, and points accrued at subsequent rounds.
Under new rules, eliminated Finals Drivers will revert to the points they finished on after the Repco Bathurst 1000, plus the points at subsequent rounds.
For example, had eliminated drivers in 2025 lost their bonuses, Andre Heimgartner — who missed out on Finals altogether — could have finished ninth overall, instead of being locked in to a best of 11th.
“This change benefits everyone,” Edwards said.
“Take Andre Heimgartner, for example. Last year, he was the 11th after Bathurst, and couldn’t finish higher than 11th. If that happened this year, he could’ve climbed as high as fifth.
“It means everyone is fighting for their respective positions, and only the final four drivers end up on the bonus points.”
Would changes have impacted 2025?

The simple fact remains: with the 2026 changes applied, Chaz Mostert still wins the championship.
Broc Feeney led through the first two elimination finals, but such was the damage incurred on the scoreboard by his technical issue in the Adelaide finale, that he finished third in the standings behind teammate Will Brown.
Under the 2026 rules, Feeney would have finished second behind Mostert, with Brown third, limiting the damage for the long time championship leader.
As for eliminated drivers, the biggest winner would have been Heimgartner, who would have finished ninth, versus his actual finish of 11th.
Brodie Kostecki also rises from ninth to seventh, while Thomas Randle drops from seventh to 11th.
