Chaz Mostert ready to deliver again after Tassie shocker
WAU star crossed the line first in both Perth races in 2024
Mostert still fifth, but 250 points from the championship lead
Chaz Mostert is looking to his 2024 Perth masterclass to breathe life back into his 2025 campaign after a disastrous round in Tasmania.
Mostert crossed the line first in both races in Perth last year, winning on Saturday and finishing second on Sunday after incurring a time penalty over a pit infringement.
It was a far cry to his Tasmania efforts last month, with Mostert a lowly 18th overall for the weekend, his worst round since joining Walkinshaw Andretti United.
Mostert has two wins, four pole positions and seven podiums in Perth, and is determined to add to those numbers after his Symmons Plains shocker.
“Perth was a weekend to remember last year, we definitely want to repeat the great results again this year,” he said in a team release.
“Wanneroo is one of my favourite race tracks, there’s only seven corners and I can count that high so that’s pretty handy.
“The new [Super 440] format this year always makes the second qualifying session on Saturday pretty interesting, it’s the first time we run that specific tyre compound at that track so you never know where you’ll come out in that session.”
Mostert admitted his Tasmania weekend was a "really, really tough one,” saying his Sunday performance was "probably one of my worst.”
After winning a race and claiming a podium in New Zealand, Mostert finished 14th, 19th and 18th in the three races. WAU insisted Mostert left happy with changes from the weekend, even if the results didn’t show it.
Crucially, Mostert fell from 86 to 250 points from the championship lead, and is now 105 points above the Finals cut-line. With six rounds left before the Finals, WAU will be hoping Mostert can turn it around.
In his pre-event Supercars.com column, Scott Sinclair suggested Mostert's 2024 form isn't a certainty of 2025 results, writing: "Prior to each event this year I’ve attempted to use last year's form as a predictor for success this year. So far it hasn’t worked.
"Only Broc Feeney and Will Brown have won at the same track again this year, both at Albert Park. While Chaz Mostert dominated in Perth last year, I’m hesitant to predict a carry-over to this year.
"That said, Chaz returning to form would be a welcome sight, adding yet another layer to this year's intriguing championship battle."
The Bosch Power Tools Perth Super 440 begins with two practice sessions on Friday at 12:05pm AWST/2:05pm AEST and 1:55pm AEST/3:55pm AEST.
