Chaz Mostert puts heat on GT stars in Indianapolis cameo
Supercars star qualifies fifth, just 0.2s off pole, for Indianapolis 8 Hour
WAU driver to contest first Supercars Finals round next weekend
Chaz Mostert has left his Bathurst heartbreak in the rear view mirror with a strong qualifying performance ahead of the Indianapolis 8 Hour.
Just last weekend, Mostert was an early retirement from the Repco Bathurst 1000, and became a global sensation after drinking a beer at The Chase.
Mostert had little time to reflect on Bathurst, jetting off to the United States to contest the Indianapolis 8 Hour.
The two-time Bathurst winner has partnered with IndyCar star Will Power and two-time Bathurst 12 Hour winner Kenny Habul for the Intercontinental GT Challenge season finale.
Mostert was handed the reins of the 75 Express Mercedes-AMG in qualifying overnight, and duly motored to sixth in a season topped by Philipp Eng and the Random Vandals Racing BMW.
However, Random Vandals Racing BMW was stripped of pole due to a technical infringement, handing pole to Jules Gounon and Lone Star Racing, and elevating Mostert to fifth in the 25-car field.
It’s a crucial result for Habul, who is fighting for the IGTC's Independent Cup title.
It also furthers Mostert’s standing as one of world motorsport’s most versatile stars, having impressed in GT3 machinery in recent years, winning last year’s GT World Challenge Australia title.
Mostert wasn't the only driver out of the WAU stable to impress on the global stage, with co-driver Jayden Ojeda taking a brilliant GT World Challenge Asia pole in Beijing.
The Indianapolis 8 Hour will commence at at 12:20 local time on Saturday/3:20am AEST Sunday. Fans can watch all eight hours live on SRO's GT World YouTube channel.
Mostert will then return to Australia for the first Supercars Elimination Final round, the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, on October 24-26. International fans can watch on SuperView.
