Chaz Mostert plays starring role at Indianapolis 8 Hour
Mostert combines with Will Power, Kenny Habul in rain-hit race
Supercars star moved to fourth in rain-hit IGTC finale
Chaz Mostert has played a starring role at Indianapolis to help Bathurst 12 Hour legend Kenny Habul claim an international title.
Mostert jetted from Bathurst to the United States for the Indianapolis 8 Hour, and quickly impressed in qualifying.
The storm-hit race was ultimately won by Kelvin van der Linde, Valentino Rossi and Charles Weerts for Team WRT BMW, which won February’s Bathurst 12 Hour.
Mostert, two-time 12 Hour winner Habul and IndyCar star Will Power finished sixth, with Habul claiming class honours and the Independent Cup title.
The race featured a lengthy red flag stoppage due to severe weather, with WRT claiming its third Indianapolis 8 Hour win, and Rossi his first Intercontinental GT World Challenge win.
Rossi also became a winner at The Brickyard on both two wheels and four, after his MotoGP victory at the famous circuit back in 2008.
Mostert took the green flag restart in sixth, and moved his 75 Express Mercedes-AMG to fourth in the two laps of wet green flag running.
However, the Mostert/Power/Habul car was hit with a 30-second post-race penalty for unauthorised work in pit lane during the red flag period, dropping them to sixth.
It was still enough for Habul to win the Independent Cup, his record-extending fourth class title.
“Will was just giving me some tips on how to kiss the bricks. It sounds like he goes a bit rough on them compared to most people,” joked Mostert, citing Power's 2018 Indy 500 victory.
“Thanks so much to Kenny for having me along, any time you get to race this track is always an honour. For a little skippy kangaroo to come over here and race against with of the best GT drivers in the world is really cool.
“My favourite stint for me for the day, was watching Kenny go up against the Pros at the front, hold his own, keep it on the lead lap, it really set our race up."
Mostert will then return to Australia for the first Supercars Elimination Final round, the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, on October 24-26. International fans can watch on SuperView.
