Chaz Mostert committed to WAU amid General Motors' star hunt
GM chasing star signing after Triple Eight announced Ford defection
Mostert locked in to race WAU Supras as team transitions to Toyota
Chaz Mostert has maintained his commitment to Walkinshaw Andretti United and Toyota in 2026, amid General Motors’ chase for a star signing.
Mostert signed a “multi-year” extension with WAU in late 2023, with the two-time Bathurst winner last year revealed as part of the team’s Toyota future with teammate Ryan Wood.
Mostert, Wood and Andre Heimgartner are the only confirmed Toyota drivers for 2026, with Brad Jones Racing yet to confirm its three other seats.
GM is chasing a star driver amid Triple Eight’s decision to shift to Ford from 2026, with Tickford Racing star Cam Waters sounded out.
Where Mostert is under lock and key for 2026, Waters has yet to publicly commit to Tickford for 2026, but is believed to have pledged allegiance to the Ford squad.
On the latest Drivers Only episode, when probed about next year, Mostert said: “We’re there next year, so we’ll see how that unfolds.”
Mostert is one of 11 drivers formally announced for next season, alongside Wood, both drivers at Triple Eight and Penrite Racing, Heimgartner, Brodie Kostecki (Dick Johnson Racing), Nick Percat (Matt Stone Racing), Anton De Pasquale (Team 18) and Cooper Murray (Erebus Motorsport).
Mostert gave little away over the status of the Toyota project, but insisted he has a job to do for Ford in 2025 before setting sail to race Supras from 2026.
“Walkinshaw I feel has always been so respectful with any relationships they’ve had between sponsors or manufacturers in the past," he said.
"It’s a big respect thing to Ford for us this year to make sure we still do the job for that and not just focus on what we’re doing for next year.
“I think the resources with what Walkinshaw Andretti United are doing, they’ve been lucky enough to have some really smart people in there that have got really great design backgrounds and are really focusing on that project for next year.
“Then guys like [engineers] Sammy [Scaffidi] and Rich [Harris] that are really taking the lead foot on the set-up stuff for performance this year on the Ford. We’ve separated our resources a little bit.”
The new Drivers Only episode is out now via Supercars’ channels and the Listnr platform.
