General Motors chasing star driver signing for 2026
Triple Eight Race Engineering to switch to Ford from next season
Will Brown, Broc Feeney to race Mustangs next year
General Motors is looking to “recruit talent” amid its new-look Supercars effort in 2026, which could see a star driver poached by the brand.
Triple Eight Race Engineering will shift to Ford next season, leaving Chevrolet on the lookout for a new homologation team.
GM is also assessing drivers amid a "bigger strategic discussion” as it aims to stay at the top of the sport.
It comes after GM locked in KRE Race Engines as its engine supplier, with Triple Eight tech guru Jeromy Moore also joining the company.
Craig Lowndes also opted against renewing with Triple Eight, instead siding with GM.
Current Triple Eight stars Will Brown and Broc Feeney will remain with the team into its Ford transition, while Chaz Mostert is also locked in Walkinshaw Andretti United, which will switch to Toyota in 2026.
Current championship leader Cam Waters could be a star coup for GM, with the 30-year-old into his 10th season with Tickford Racing.
Brodie Kostecki, meanwhile, turned down a deal from PremAir Racing to join Dick Johnson Racing and Ford.
Speaking in Melbourne, Executive Director of GM Motorsport Competition Eric Warren said chasing star drivers is key for his company’s motorsport push.
“In any race series that I’m involved in, we always want best drivers we can get,” Warren told media.
“I mean, that’s the nature of the sport. We’re always trying to recruit talent.”
Later, Managing Director of GM ANZ Jess Bala added to Speedcafe: “We’ll assess every opportunity, we have to and that’s not just drivers, but it’s technical expertise and everything else at the same time.
“So, yes, talking about drivers is part of our bigger strategic discussion. It has to be, so we need to go through and look at what’s possible, both short term and long term.”
Supercars will race on all four days of the Australian Grand Prix across March 13-16.
