Tickford star "like I’m still one of the young ones" in 150th round
Waters sits fourth in the championship heading to Perth
Cam Waters isn’t feeling the supposed age attached to his latest Supercars milestone.
The Tickford Racing driver this weekend celebrates 150 Supercars rounds, some 15 years after his surprise debut as a teenager at Bathurst, no less.
Already a 20-time race winner, Waters turns 32 on Monday, and is the fourth oldest driver on the grid behind David Reynolds (41), Chaz Mostert (34) and Jack Le Brocq (34).
Waters began his career as a 17-year-old wildcard entrant at the 2011 Bathurst 1000 after winning the Shannons Supercar Showdown, and won the 2015 Super2 title.
He partnered Chaz Mostert in the 2015 enduros, before making his solo debut later that year when he substituted in for the injured Mostert.
Waters and Tickford have been joined at the hip since 2016, and recent form suggests the Mildura native could be on course for his maiden championship.
"Great to be celebrating the 150 round milestone this weekend in Perth,” Waters said.
"Labels me as one of the older guys in the field but I’m still feeling pretty good and like I’m still one of the young ones.
"Hopefully will be celebrating at the end of the weekend with some good results and a glass of whisky.”
Waters, who becomes the 34th driver to achieve 150 round starts, ended Perth practice Friday fifth on the time sheets.
Supercars return to Motormall Wanneroo Raceway on Saturday for back-to-back Boost Mobile Qualifying sessions, beginning at 9:45am local time/11:45am AEST.
