Brodie Kostecki and Ryan Wood come together in Race 11 qualifying
Kostecki copped four-place grid penalty for this afternoon's first race
Ford duo also involved in Lap 1 incident in Taupō finale
Brodie Kostecki has apologised for his role in a costly collision during Boost Mobile Qualifying for Race 11 of the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship at the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super 440.
Having progressed to the second segment of Race 11 qualifying, Kostecki set the fastest first sector on his first of two flying laps to end the session, chasing Ryan Wood.
However, it was a difference in lines taken through the Turn 4 hairpin that saw Kostecki spear into the back of the #2 Mustang, with Wood spinning and James Golding forced to take evasive action in behind.
As a result all three drivers were compromised on their final runs, with Wood and Golding qualifying ninth and 10th, but Kostecki wrangled fifth in the session.
However, the Dick Johnson Racing star was quickly penalised for the incident, and will start Race 11 of the championship from ninth on the grid.
It's the second time in two events that Kostecki and Wood have come to blows, following their Lap 1 battle in the final race at Taupō.
Kostecki sought out Wood before Race 12 qualifying began, however the young Kiwi had already retreated to the WAU truck, with Kostecki explaining his side of the incident on the broadcast.
"I just went in as I normally would, and Woody was taking a different line to me," said the reigning Bathurst champion.
"I guess it's just one of those things, I just went up to apologise but I can understand his frustration. Sorry to them and their guys, you don't want to do that in qualifying, but we'll reset now and go again.
"The car is obviously not too bad, so we just need to tune it up a little bit."
Wood also explained his side of the incident once he reappeared in the WAU garage, and sided with Kostecki in believing their different lines through the hairpin caught out both drivers.
"Obviously the hairpin is such a hard corner, and Brodie has such a different line to me, and I think it's just caught him and myself out," said Wood.
"Obviously he's turned me, and in the heat of the moment that's why I didn't speak to him, because I didn't want to say something that I'd regret.
"It is what it is, and I know Bush didn't have any intentions of trying to do that, especially when we've just been on our Ford retreat, so it's all good, we'll go into our next qualy and we'll go again."
Race 11 of the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship begins at 12:05pm AEST.
