Brodie Kostecki reacts to "silly" Turn 8 scare, corner tweak
Kostecki grazed the wall at Adelaide's infamous Turn 8 sweeper
Bright paint has been applied to the inside Armco barrier for 2025
Brodie Kostecki has put his brush with Adelaide’s infamous Turn 8 wall, which has received a change from officials, down to “being a silly.”
Kostecki’s run to third featured a high-speed scare at the fearsome sweeper, the 2023 champion grazing the wall at corner exit.
The 2024 Bathurst winner got away with it, albeit with paint from the wall being left behind on the left rear quarter panel of the Ford. Before the ride session held immediately after Practice 1, Dick Johnson Racing team staff applied tape to the damaged section ahead of thorough repairs.
When asked about the incident post-session, Kostecki told media: "Just being a bit silly in P1.
"Car feels pretty good otherwise though. It's so early in the weekend. Track's gonna change a lot.
"Once all the categories get out there and lay some rubber down, I'm sure it'll be completely different by tomorrow and we'll see if the rain comes."
A tweak has been made to Turn 8 for this weekend’s action, with the corner given a new coat of paint. The Armco barrier on the inside of the sweeper has been painted bright orange, some 12 months after major crashes at the corner headlined the weekend.
Richie Stanaway, Cameron Hill and David Reynolds all crashed in quick succession at Turn 8 during Friday afternoon qualifying that was later abandoned. All three drivers clipped the inside wall — which was in shade at the time — before firing towards the outside wall.
Jaxon Evans then crashed in the same manner in Sunday morning qualifying.
A post-event safety review was undertaken, with officials opting to add bright paint to the inside of the corner, which has otherwise remained unchanged.
The concrete barrier on drivers’ left on the exit has been slightly realigned.
When asked about the changes, Kostecki said: "I noticed the apex, like the colour of the guardrail.
"I think I've always tested the outside [wall]. I haven't tested the inside one yet, so hopefully I don't do that.”
Supercars return to the track on Friday morning for Practice 2 at 10:30am local/11:00am AEDT, followed by Boost Mobile Qualifying at 12:40pm local/1:10pm AEDT. Tickets for the event are on sale.
