Sinking feeling for Brodie Kostecki as mistakes cruel championship hopes
Kostecki crashed out of Saturday's action, began Sunday in drop zone
11th on Sunday not enough as Kostecki ends weekend 10th in points
Brodie Kostecki has vowed to go out swinging in 2025 after his Repco Supercars Finals Series ended at the first attempt at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.
The Shell V-Power Racing Team star was one of the favourites for the 2025 crown heading into The Finals, but it unfolded in quick time in Surfers Paradise.
A practice crash on Friday was followed by a shocking qualifying crunch on Saturday, forcing Kostecki on the sidelines and Dick Johnson Racing into overnight repairs.
The team began Sunday with hope through weary eyes, but Kostecki missed out on a Shootout berth. In response, the team put Kostecki on a bold strategy, but he didn't have the pace to make it work.
Through it all, Kostecki ended the weekend 10th and 76 points from a Semi Final berth, having entered fifth and 27 points to the good.
"Yeah, it was a bit of a bad race for us," Kostecki said on the broadcast.
"We tried something different with strategy and it didn't quite pay off, didn't really have the car speed to do it.
"But, that's how this year's Finals format is. It's been a crazy weekend.
"We'd love to be a part of it going forward, but for us, we'll just keep doing what we're doing, try win some races and go have fun for the rest of the year."
Kostecki is now determined to ruffle feathers at Sandown and Adelaide, but the 2023 champion first wants to review what went wrong on the Gold Coast.
"We'll go through this weekend, but there's a few mistakes by myself, obviously on the Friday and then what happened in qualifying," Kostecki added.
"So, we'll dig deep and come back as a collective, and hopefully we get some more trophies at the end of the year."
The 2025 Repco Supercars Finals Series resumes at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 on November 14-16. Tickets for the Semi Final are on sale now.
