Chaz Mostert bring up 150 round starts in his 12th season
Has amassed 24 wins, 25 poles, two Bathurst wins, two Bathurst poles
Mostert currently having best season since 2015
Chaz Mostert will notch another career milestone this weekend, as he starts his 150th career Supercars Championship round at the NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint.
The Walkinshaw Andretti United spearhead has been one the championship’s brightest stars for several seasons since bursting onto the scene in 2013 as a fresh-faced 21-year-old.
Now 32, Mostert has built an impressive Supercars CV in 340 races, amassing 24 wins, including Bathurst 1000 wins in 2014 and 2021, and is only four podiums away from 100 career podiums.
Mostert is in the midst of what is arguably the strongest season of his career, currently second in the championship with three wins for the season and only 105 points behind Will Brown.
Ahead of Mostert’s 150th round start this weekend, Supercars.com looks back at some of his other milestone weekends.
Round 1, Perth 2013
Having starred for Ford Performance Racing (now Tickford) in the 2012 Super2 Series, Mostert moved to MW Motorsport for 2013 and was the favourite for the title after winning the opening round in Adelaide.
However, Mostert would receive an unexpected full-time promotion as part of an alliance between FPR and Dick Johnson Racing, with Mostert replacing Kiwi Jonny Reid at the Queensland squad.
First win, Ipswich 2013
It would only take Mostert 15 races to claim his first victory in the championship, which came at his fifth round start at Queensland Raceway.
Mostert got the jump on pole-sitter Will Davison and was never headed in a mature performance to claim a popular victory for DJR at their home track.
First Bathurst win, 2014
Mostert would move back to FPR in 2014 after Will Davison left for Erebus, and would claim the biggest victory of his young career at that year’s Bathurst 1000.
In what many consider to be the greatest Bathurst 1000 of all time, Mostert charged from the rear of the grid after being disqualified from qualifying.
Mostert also overcame a crash for co-driver Paul Morris to hunt down Jamie Whincup when he ran out of fuel on the last lap to claim the most unlikely of victories in just his second Bathurst start, and 22nd round.
First pole, Perth 2015
Whilst Mostert’s natural speed was evident from the moment he joined the championship, it wouldn’t be until Perth in 2015 that he claimed his first career pole.
Mostert was unable to convert pole into victory in the first race at Perth, finishing second to teammate Mark Winterbottom as the renamed Prodrive Racing Australia continued its dominant start to 2015 in the new Ford Falcon FG X.
Round 50, Adelaide 2017
Mostert’s 50th round start came at the 2017 Adelaide 500, his second season with Prodrive’s Rod Nash Racing licence having returned from his 2015 Bathurst injuries in 2016.
Mostert would finish third in the Sunday leg behind Kiwis Shane van Gisbergen and Scott McLaughlin, after claiming ninth in the opening race on Saturday.
Round 100, Darwin 2020
Mostert would bring up his century at the second leg of the COVID-induced double-header in Darwin, having made the sensational switch from Tickford to Walkinshaw Andretti United for 2020.
Finishes of ninth, 18th, and sixth wrapped up what was a difficult couple of weekends in the Top End for Mostert and WAU.
Second Bathurst win, 2021
An improved second season culminated in an incredible Bathurst 1000 weekend with Lee Holdsworth, with the #25 Appliances Online Commodore the car to beat all weekend.
After smashing the lap record with a 2:03.3736s in the Top Ten Shootout, Mostert recovered from a tyre failure to claim a sensational second Bathurst victory and sealed third in the championship.
Led championship for first time, 2022
Mostert and WAU carried their Bathurst momentum into the first round of the 2022 season, winning a wet and wild 250km race at Sydney Motorsport Park to leave the round as the championship leader.
It was the first time Mostert led the Supercars Championship, finishing third once again after a dream final weekend for WAU as a Holden team in Adelaide, where Mostert won in a one-two on Saturday.
Took WAU’s first Ford win, 2024
Following a difficult opening season as a Ford team in 2023, WAU has reemerged as a force to be reckoned with in 2024.
After securing a front-row lockout with rookie teammate Ryan Wood, Mostert went from lights to flag to claim WAU’s first victory for Ford in the opening race at Perth, and swept the last round in Sydney to surge into championship contention.
Round 150, Tasmania 2024
This weekend, Mostert becomes the 31st driver to reach 150 round starts and follows in the footsteps of former WAU teammate Nick Percat, who achieved the milestone at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Fittingly, it comes in Tasmania for Mostert, who claimed his first win with WAU at the venue in 2021.
“It’s a pretty special weekend celebrating 150 rounds, it only feels like yesterday that I hopped into a Supercar for the first time, but I must be getting older or something," he said.
"Tassie is a really special place for me personally, it’s where I secured my first race win with WAU, let’s hope for similar results this weekend."
