Triple Eight have solidified their place as Tickford's nearest Super2 rivals following a breakout weekend for rookie Jackson Walls at the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440.
The Sydneysider claimed his first pole position, race win, and round win on Sunday at Ipswich, becoming the first driver since Declan Fraser at Adelaide in 2022 to achieve those three feats for Triple Eight.
Walls ended a five-race winning streak for Tickford, with Rylan Gray claiming the spoils on Saturday after facing a nervous wait following an alleged Safety Car restart infringement.
Remarkably, Triple Eight didn't gain any ground on Tickford in the teams' standings, however what was a six point gap over Eggleston in the fight for second has now blown out to 63 points.
There was movement in the midfield, with Ryan McLeod Racing Cars jumping Brad Jones Racing for fourth, whilst the bottom four teams in the standings also moved around.
Blanchard Racing Team and Anderson Motorsport both gained a position to move into eighth and tenth respectively, whilst Kelly Racing and Image Racing both slid, the latter dropping to the bottom of the table.
Who scored points in Ipswich?
Walls and Gray finished the weekend tied on points at the top for Triple Eight and Tickford respectively with 261 points for the weekend, both drivers claiming a victory and a fifth in the two races.
It was a solid bounceback from a horror Townsville for Eggleston Motorsport's Cody Burcher, who finished fifth for the round with 204 points, whilst Blanchard Racing Team rookie Bailey Sweeny claimed his first race podium on Saturday to finish sixth on 195 points.
A strong Sunday showing contributed to Cameron McLeod adding 189 points to Ryan McLeod Racing Cars' tally, whilst a season's best weekend for Walkinshaw Andretti United rookie Matt Hillyer added 168 points to the team's total.
Despite finishing second on Saturday, a DNF for Brad Vaughan on Sunday saw Brad Jones Racing teammate Cody Gillis outscore the South Australian for the first time all year, a dual top 10 making for a 162-point weekend.
A tough season for Jobe Stewart and Erebus continued Ipswich, the former Super3 champion scoring just 126 points, whilst teenager Ryan Tomsett continued to quietly improve, scoring 123 points for Anderson Motorsport.
On a weekend where Jarrod Hughes scored zero points, Image Racing dropped to last in the teams' standings, with Max Geoghegan adding 99 points, whilst Mason Kelly's big incident with Hughes on Saturday limited Kelly Racing to just 63 points for the weekend.
