Victorian claims breakthrough victories in lights-to-flag performance

  • Eggleston driver also claims first round win in third Super2 season

  • Cameron McLeod and Ben Gomersall complete round podium

Jordyn Sinni has claimed his first career race and round victories in the Dunlop Super2 Series in Race 2 of the season at the Thrifty Sydney 500 - Opening Round.

Sinni beat teammate and polesitter Cody Burcher off the front row of the grid at the start and disappeared into the distance as a three-way scrap for second place erupted in the final laps.

Beginning his third season in Super2 for Eggleston Motorsport, Sinni was in a class of his own, and takes the championship lead into Round 2 at Symmons Plains Raceway in Tasmania.

Whilst Sinni disappeared into the distance, teammate Burcher fell back into the clutches of a fast-starting Brad Vaughan, who launced his Brad Jones Racing Commodore from sixth to third by Turn 1.

There was plenty of drama on the opening lap as Lochie Dalton was turfed off in the mid-pack by Tickford teammate Nash Morris at Turn 3, though the Tasmanian would recover to 13th after dropping to last.

Jarrod Hughes and Ryan Tomsett would also collide at Turn 10 at the end of the opening lap, the former's tough weekend continuing after being disqualified from qualifying earlier today.

Vaughan continued to hound the rear of the #36 Commodore, making a dive on the fifth lap of the race to no avail, before dropping back towards fourth-placed Ben Gomersall.

It wouldn't be until the final three laps of the race that Vaughan would find his way by Burcher, getting a run on the exit of Turn 6 and diving up the inside of Turn 7.

Gomersall would make a similar move one lap later, securing his maiden race and round podiums on his debut weekend with Triple Eight, whilst also claiming rookie of the round honours.

Burcher would come home fourth ahead of fellow Eggleston driver Zach Bates in fifth, who fended off pressure from Reuben Goodall in the final laps.

Jackson Walls claimed seventh ahead of Race 1 winner Cameron McLeod, who also wrapped up second for the round with an audacious move around the outside of Rylan Gray at Turn 1.

Bailey Sweeny was the race's sole retirement after suffering a suspected gearbox failure in the Blanchard Racing Team's #33 Mustang.

Round 2 of the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series will take place at the Tasmania Super 440 from May 9-11.
