Sonic Motor RacingServices have confirmed this year’s two-car Bob Jane T-Marts V8 SupercarDevelopment Series team as Rodney Jane and Garry Jacobson.
Seasoned racer Jane willagain saddle up in the #777 Triple Eight Race Engineering FG Falcon but risingVictorian youngster Jacobson steps up from his Sonic Formula Ford to thethumping V8’s this time.
“I certainly think Garry is ready for this, and he’s more than capable of meeting the challenges,” says Sonic principalMichael Ritter, “he’s been pretty hands on with us over the last year with theDVS program so he’s hardly coming in out of the cold. I think it’s anopportunity that he’ll grab with both hands.”
The step up to DVSputs a positive spin on last season that ended in spectacular and painfulfashion when the 20-year-old Shepparton speedster crashed and broke his arm atMt. Panorama Bathurst during the SCA 1000 weekend.
It would turn out tobe his last Formula Ford appearance.
“I’ve been workingvery hard on regaining 100% fitness with Phil Young and training hard inQueensland since the accident and after my recent test session in the car lastweek I feel like I’m where I need to be at,” concedes and obviously excitedJacobson.
Garry has justcompleted two further days of testing at Winton in the build up to the loomingfirst round of the Dunlop Series at The Clipsal 500 at the end of the month.
“Obviously I’m keen toget as many laps in as I can. These cars require such a different driving andfitness discipline to Formula Fords and Aussie Cars so the more track time Ican get in the better off I’ll be come Clipsal time obviously,” Garry concedes.
Jacobson is delightedthat his Dunlop Series debut will be under the watchful eye of Michael Ritter.
“I’ve really trustedMick with my career since joining the Sonic Family, and that’s really what itis, a family. I know that the Sonic Team are the best to guide me through thisfirst season and hopefully well beyond that. I’m working closely with myengineer and all our mechanics at Sonic and it’s really a natural extension ofwhat I’ve been doing with them up until now anyway. It’s a very exciting timeof my life and I can’t wait to get started,” the youngster grins.
The Adelaide StreetCircuit is one that Jacobson knows very well, having competed in Aussie RacingCars and Formula Ford on three different occasions.
“The Clipsal 500 isone of my favourite events (it also ties in with his 21st birthday atthis year’s running) because of the atmosphere, the track, the music andeverything that goes with it. I can’t think of a place that I’d rather start myV8 Supercar career at.”
The world is very much at Garry Jacobson’sfeet as he joins Rodney Jane in the identical Bob Jane T-Mart FG Falcons for2013.
