Red Bull Racing Australia's Craig Lowndes has turned the first laps through the streets of Kuala Lumpur at the KL City Grand Prix this afternoon.
Lowndes' honorary laps were delayed while the final touches were put in place for the event -and when he did get in the V8 Supercar, the heavens opened up and he was met by rain.
The three-time V8 Supercars Champion completed two laps around the tight street circuit despite the weather, sliding around the track in style.
"It was quite amazing to get a full taste and feel the race car," Lowndes said after the laps.
"It's a shame about the weather but the five of us are looking forward to getting back out there.
"It's entertaining ... over the next couple of days we'll have some practice, qualifying and races, so it's nice to know where it goes left and right!"
Lowndes was honoured to be selected to complete the first laps, and is looking forward to more opportunity in this afternoon's practice session.
His weather-affected laps took over two minutes each, though his second run was quicker - the first a 2min18.963, followed by a 2min17.236 on wet weather tyres.
All five V8 Supercars will take to the track at 2.55pm local time (4.55pm AEST) for practice.
