Next-gen Coates Supercars Volunteers power 2025 Gold Coast event
Over 600 volunteers supported the 2025 Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500
2025 event saw a noticeable rise in volunteers aged between 16 and 30
The 2025 Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 was more than a motorsport spectacle. It was a celebration of community, opportunity, and the next generation of volunteers.
With over 600 volunteers supporting the event, the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 stands as one of Australia’s largest showcases of volunteer spirit in motorsport.
The event has always had a rich history of returning volunteers, with many involved since the IndyCar days. This year, however, saw a noticeable rise in volunteers aged between 16 and 30.
These young contributors stepped confidently into roles across the event, bringing fresh energy and perspectives while learning from experienced volunteers whose knowledge and support are essential to making it all happen.
Volunteers were spread across a wide range of roles within the Race and Event Official categories. These included Flag Marshalls, Scrutineers, Gate Keepers, and Grandstand Ushers, just to name a few.
With a couple thousand active volunteers in the Coates Supercars programme, the event is a testament to the power of collective effort and the importance of creating pathways for new talent.
In 2025, Coates Supercars Volunteers launched new initiatives to recruit even more volunteers into the sport. These include a partnership with the Australian Army Cadets and a collaboration with the FIA Girls on Track Program, both aimed at engaging young people and introducing them to the world of motorsport officiating.
The Gold Coast 500 was proud to host the Girls on Track – Empower program, which saw nine young women aged 18 to 22 gain hands on experience across three different volunteering roles over the three days. This rotation gave them insight into various aspects of officiating and helped them explore their interests in motorsport from multiple angles.
As the Gold Coast 500 continues to evolve, the role of volunteers will only become more vital. Their stories of ambition, teamwork, and resilience are inspiring a new wave of participation and ensuring that the spirit of volunteering remains at the heart of Australian motorsport.
Emily-Kate Williams, Volunteers & Events Coordinator, Supercars said: “Our Coates Supercars Volunteers family is something really special. We have volunteers who have clocked more years at the track than some of our drivers have been alive, right alongside those who are brand new to the sport and eager to get involved.
"Launching new initiatives like our partnerships with the Australian Army Cadets and the Girls on Track – Empower program is bringing a fresh calibre of volunteers in and it is awesome to see them discover just how exciting being part of the motorsport community can be.”
Joel Couacaud, Sales Manager - North, Coates, added: “At Coates, we’re proud to support the volunteers who make Supercars events possible. Volunteer of the round appreciation awards are just a small way to recognise their hard work and show how much we value their dedication.
Craig Dontas, Supercars Head of Commercial, said: “Our events simply wouldn’t happen without the dedication of our volunteers—they’re the driving force behind everything we do.
“Partnering with Coates allows us to elevate the volunteer programme, making it even more rewarding and accessible. With their support, we’re excited to welcome even more people into our volunteer community.”
With the support of partners like Coates, the future of volunteering in motorsport is bright, diverse, and full of opportunity.
