Newcastle 500 fuel drop revealed
Supercars has revealed the new fuel drop requirements, which will debut at next weekend's Thrifty Newcastle 500.
Per the Further Supplementary Regulations, cars will need to take on 100 litres of fuel in each of the two 95-lap, 250km races.
The new Gen3 cars have a fuel cell that holds 133 litres, with the new drop less than the 120- to 140-litre drop for the Gen2 cars.
The Gen2 cars had a fuel cell with a capacity of 111 litres.
Despite the reduced fuel load, teams will still be required to make at least two compulsory pit stops per race.
It adds a strategic element to fuel stops, with Newcastle one of seven rounds in 2023 to feature refuelling.
Teams will have the option to short-fill during their first pit stop to gain track position.
Other strategic considerations will come into play as well; notably, the new fuel rigs have a slower fill rate.
Next weekend's Thrifty Newcastle 500 will also be held on Dunlop's Soft compound tyre, with the Gen3 cars to produce more degradation.
It comes after Supercars revealed the minimum car/driver and front axle weights.
Practice for the Thrifty Newcastle 500 will begin next Friday, with two 95-lap races scheduled over the weekend.
