Chaz Mostert has revealed he suffered a freak shoulder injury on the morning of Sunday's Gold Coast action.

Mostert raced to a second podium in as many days at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.

It came after the Walkinshaw Andretti United driver suffered a bizarre injury after qualifying.

Mostert hurt his right shoulder while getting out of his race suit on Sunday morning.

He had qualified fifth, and clocked the fourth-quickest time in the Shootout.

The 30-year-old's shoulder was taped ahead of 85 gruelling laps, and he duly finished second.

"After qualifying, I popped my should out getting changed," he revealed in the post-race press conference.

"That wasn't ideal, but everything in the race felt pretty good.

"Luckily we had our physio here who was able to tape my shoulder and get on with it."

Mostert was far closer to van Gisbergen on Sunday, albeit thanks to a late Safety Car.

He claimed he had more comfort with his shoulder while in the car versus out.

The two-time Bathurst winner consolidated third in the points, with Anton De Pasquale disqualified post-race.

Mostert holds a 118-point margin over Will Davison, with Cam Waters 175 points up the road in second.

"In the race car, it feels better that what it does out of it," he said.

"Heat and in that position feels pretty good.

"So probably should do it more often if it comes with these results.

"I'm much happier with the last race.

"Shane said yesterday he wanted to put a 20-second gap on everyone.

"I was pretty motivated in that race to make sure I kept it as little as possible.

"I had a chance to have a crack at him, but he was bloody quick this weekend.

"For us to come second after two P4 starting positions, I'm pretty stoked with that."
