Mostert back in DJR Falcon at Ipswich

Ahead of the event he won for the team last year at the same circuit, Chaz Mostert turned laps in a Dick Johnson Racing Falcon at today's test at Queensland Raceway.

The presence of Mostert and his FPR race engineer Adam DeBorre is part of the technical alliance between the two Ford teams on the grid, and was also the reason FPR-signed Mostert raced with the iconic DJR team last season.

A DJR spokesman reported testing was progressing well today, with one of its main focuses qualifying pace - an issue FPR was also trying to improve at its Winton test on Monday.

"The opportunity to have Chaz in, helps both DJR and FPR coming into the Ipswich event. It's as much about evaluating our position, as much as it is utilising that relationship with those people," the spokesman told v8supercars.com.au.

"The other side of it too is they had a very successful test earlier this week and found some gains in some places. And it's an opportunity for us to evaluate some of those and understand whether it's something to take to the race weekend in a couple of week's time."

Given teams only have three independent test days - in addition to the pre-season compulsory run - it is important to make every lap on-track count.

Both Pirtek Enduro Cup co-drivers are present, with Scott Pye's co-driver Ash Walsh having run this morning and David Wall's partner Steve Johnson on the plans for an afternoon hit-out. However, endurance running is not a priority for the team for this particular test.

Qualifying is key, as well as running on soft tyres, ahead of the all soft-tyre event at Queensland Raceway, beginning on August 1.

With the departure of sporting director Campbell Little reported last week, the team has reverted back to a similar structure to last year before the heavyweight engineer joined the ranks.

The team is focused on moving forward, and, of course, getting the most out of the Falcons for the upcoming race meeting at the same circuit.

"We're learning more about the rear of the car in particular and setting it up accordingly. That evolutionary process is what everyone is going through. And that's our focus, certainly to try and ensure we've got the best possible package for our drivers for the event in the next few week's time."
