Moore on how Webber shaped his motorsport career
Triple Eight Race Engineering Technical Director Jeromy Moore has opened up on the influences that have helped him throughout his 20-year career in motorsport, recognising Mark Webber as the man who "took him under his wing".
Speaking to Jess Dane as part of the new digital series, Spirited Conversations, Moore has reflected on his years in the top tier of motorsport, both in Australia and internationally.
Beginning as a data engineer when Triple Eight began in 2003, Moore progressed to become Craig Lowndes’ race engineer in 2008.

Six years later, Moore became chief designer for the Brisbane-based team, but wanting to get outside his comfort zone, he accepted a role with Porsche in 2015.
Working with the German powerhouse as a performance and race engineer, he helped the #2 entry win the World Endurance Championship and at Le Mans in 2016.
In acknowledging the people who helped him along the way, Moore admitted it was a fellow Australian who had a big impact on him.
“I think it’s pretty straightforward to say Mark Webber,” Moore said.
“He was a big influence; he has seen the background of Formula 1 but also the upper echelon of how motorsport works over there.
“He is very keen to take Australians under his wing and push them along.”
The highly respected engineer admitted he was buoyed by the challenge of taking on Porsche’s LMP1 program in 2014 and acknowledged how Australians are highly regarded in international motorsport.
“Australians and New Zealanders are oversubscribed in motorsport overseas due to our resourcefulness," said Moore.
“We don’t have all the resources here and we don’t specialise early in our careers like they do in Europe.
“In Australia, you have to know a bit of everything on the whole car, that’s why you see a lot of Australians in the upper levels of motorsport in Europe and the US.
“Because we have an understanding of the whole car and managing different departments.
Moore returned to Trple Eight in 2019
“Not having all the resources we know how to make something work without the ideal solution or part, and that’s motorsport, you need to know what to do in a short time frame and react and adapt."
Returning to Australia in 2019, Moore moved back into the Triple Eight fold to oversee the entire technical operations at Triple Eight across the Repco Supercars Championship, Dunlop Super2 Series and GT operations.
