Five V8 Supercars drivers and team personnel are excited to be on their way to Malaysia today, ahead of the first Kuala Lumpur City Grand Prix this weekend.
Their V8 Supercars have been freighted out of Queensland and are due to land this evening, ahead of turning the first laps on Friday.
Red Bull Racing Australia, Prodrive Racing Australia, Erebus Motorsport and Wilson Security GRM are all taking spare race cars for the overseas showcase, while Nissan Motorsport is sending Rick Kelly's race car, to be steered by Todd Kelly on the new street circuit.
Along with Kelly, Championship stars Craig Lowndes, Chaz Mostert, Will Davison and Scott McLaughlin have the first opportunity to inspect and drive the track, most visiting Malaysia for the first time for the event.
The five drivers are proud to represent V8 Supercars, their brand, and get a taste of the track and the country before a fully-blown Championship points event over there next year.
"When you get opportunities like this in our sport, you jump at it," former Bathurst winner and Championship runner-up Will Davison said.
"It's big for the sport and to be one of the five is just one of the great opportunities in the journey of V8 Supercars to go and enjoy it, and get a taste of it for next year."
Holden hero Craig Lowndes - who will be the first to experience the circuit, allocated the first laps ahead of any other racing - says they will definitely put on a show for the local fans.
"It's exciting to be one of the five to get over there for the first time and have a look around," he said.
"I know that although this is a demonstration race, drivers are already talking about how serious it's all going to be.
"For us it's a great opportunity to get over there, showcase what V8 Supercars are all about - hopefully the fans embrace what the cars look like, what they sound like and of course we'll put on a good show to get back next year and the year after as well."
Todd Kelly - who has the honour of being the only Asian round winner from V8 Supercars foray to China in 2005 - acknowledged that it was not just a positive for the drivers, but sponsors also.
"I'm really lucky - It's pretty cool to go over and get a sneak peak of the place. It's also really good to represent the category and the interest that we've had so far from all of our sponsors has been huge," Kelly said.
"A lot of our MDs from our major sponsors are actually going to go over for the demonstration and also with Nissan and Nismo fairly strong in that region, they're all fairly exciting about it.
"It's been a pretty huge thing for our team in particular to get in front of those people and get that kind of interest is really good."
Joining the drivers will be their team bosses, engineers and mechanics to ensure the cars are performing at their best across the KL City Grand Prix, and V8 Supercars staff.
