  • Brad Jones shares update on Jaxon Evans' chassis after frightening Turn 8 crash

  • Accident ended Evans' rookie season after being diagnosed with a concussion

  • Former Carrera Cup champion finished 23rd in the standings despite missing final race

Brad Jones has detailed the amount of damage done to Jaxon Evans' SCT Logistics Camaro after the Kiwi's frightening Turn 8 crash at the VAILO Adelaide.

After making a maiden Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout appearance on Saturday, Race 24 qualifying wasn't as kind to the rookie, who became one of a number of drivers to be sent into the outside wall after clipping the inside wall.

The #50 Camaro had three big collisions with the concrete, sliding along the outside wall before slapping into a recess for officials vehicles, with the secondary impact sending the car spearing into the inside wall.

Though Brad Jones Racing were confident they would get the car repaired for the final race of the season, the 2018 Carrera Cup champion was ruled out after suffering a concussion in the crash.

Six-time Bathurst 1000 podium finisher Jones shared the progress made on the Camaro since it returned to the team's Albury workshop in the latest of the team's technical videos shared on social media.

"So far we've got the car stripped back a fair bit," Jones said.

"What we've ascertained so far is that some of the biggest damage is this panel in here [behind the front left corner] is all damaged, so it's going to have to go back on a jig, that will come out.

"All this front end here is all over, and as you would expect from such a big impact. Some of the stuff on the firewall will need checking to see how bent that is, but the boys are pulling everything off, they'll strip everything out, and get it ready to be placed back on the jig.

"The rear is not so bad. The clips bolt and unbolt, the rear end has come off, it's twisted and bent, but that will go down to sub-assembly.

"The front section is just totally destroyed, it's so bent it won't be worth repairing.

"Very big hit, a lot of work to be done, an unbelievable amount of broken parts, but the good news is we've got a reasonable amount of time to get it all sorted out."

Evans finished the last of the four BJR drivers in the standings in 23rd after a difficult season for the only New South Wales-based team in the championship, however Evans will return to drive the SCT Logistics entry in 2025.

A new era for the Repco Supercars Championship will begin at the 2025 Sydney 500 from February 21-23 at Sydney Motorsport Park. Tickets for the event are available now.
