From the hot kitchen to the hot seat – My Kitchen Rules stars Bianca Johnston and Thalia Papadakis hit the track with Fabian Coulthard at the Tyrepower Tasmania 400 this afternoon.
The local Tassie girls were at their first V8 Supercars event and could not contain their excitement after a lap around the 2.4km Symmons Plains circuit.
“Absolute madness, that was crazy!” Bianca said.
“I really enjoyed it, a lot more than I thought I would.”
The turn four hairpin was intense.
“You just don’t think he’s going to make it, you think he’s not even going to put the brake on! But he did so, he’s a great driver.”
She said the experience has definitely made her a V8 Supercars fan. In fact, Bianca agreed there was a parallel with MKR, commenting on how much happens behind the scenes on race day.
“Seeing what goes on in the inside is very different from what goes on from the outside and just watching the cars go around… We got to see them all making their changes today, so much goes into it, you don’t really realise.”
Decked out in Lockwood Racing suits, helmets and all the safety gear, the girls were nervous before hitting the track, Thalia the first to jump in the passenger seat.
But who better to tour the circuit – which has a top speed of 270km/h – than last year’s two-race winner?
“It was awesome, I was really scared before I got in, but it was really good – I had my eyes shut for most of it!” Thalia said.
“I was really nervous until we met Fabian, then I was ok – but when I got in the car I freaked out!”
Thalia said she was enjoying watching the show back as it airs on Channel Seven.
“You get to relive it all again, see what people have said behind our backs! It’s really exciting for us, we don’t want it to end!”
As in V8 Supercars, strong rivalries heated up during MKR – Thalia said the ‘Dads’ Paul and Blair and mother and daughter team Cathy and Anna were the pairs they considered their main competition.
Thalia and Bianca will be trackside again tomorrow, and encourage fans of the show to say hello throughout the day.
“And we’ll definitely be supporting him (Coulthard)!” Bianca said.
Follow My Kitchen Rules on Channel Seven, with the next episode airing on Sunday.
