It comes as WAU CEO Bruce Stewart watches on remotely, with Faux now spearheading both the team and the #25 Ford on the ground.
"Unfortunately, a few little things have transpired this weekend that Sam Scaffidi can't be with us today," Mostert said on the broadcast.
"Today we're racing for Sam and his family, he's the most passionate bloke we have in the team, we're going to try and do the job for the team.
"He gave us a pretty good car through practice and qualifying, and no doubt he's given us a pretty good race car today too, probably a bit better than a top 10 car. Looking forward to it."
Engineering guru Faux was charged to lead the Toyota GR Supra project ahead of the brand's arrival in Supercars from next season.
The Briton joined WAU in late 2017, just after watching a car he designed, the Subaru Levorg, win the British Touring Car Championship title with driver Ashley Sutton.

Before joining WAU, Faux also worked with the likes of Triple Eight (UK), RML and Team BMR,.
