The Dunlop Series field has been reduced to 24 for Sunday in Perth, after Matt Chahda was forced to withdraw from the remainder of the weekend.

Chahda had finished 16th in the first race of the weekend, however the Cavalier Homes Commodore ZB developed a severe engine problem late in the race.

"Unfortunately, we won't be racing today,” Chahda said in a social media post.

"We had an engine drama late in yesterday's race, dropped the cylinder. This thing's not fixable, weren't able to get our hands on a spare engine.”

"Unfortunately we've just been stuck with sitting out today. We've grabbed through a few options and it's just not feasible, not able to make it happen.

The engine drama is the latest setback for the Cavalier Homes team, after Chahda suffered a heavy crash at Forrest's Elbow in Race 2 at the season opener in Bathurst.

The crash necessitated a major rebuild of the ex-BJR Commodore, and has left the Albury native in a lowly 20th in the points standings.

"So, the team's super gutted," he added.

"Obviously, it’s a lot of work to get out there and do this sort of racing, but it is what it is. It's a hard game. Bad things happen, can't win them all."

In between Bathurst and Perth, Chahda was confirmed to be running an enduro wildcard at Sandown and Bathurst, with a co-driver from the Super2 field to be confirmed.

Boost Mobile Qualifying for Race 2 of the Dunlop Series begins at 11:05am AWST/1:05pm AEST.
