Red Bull Racing Australia's Jamie Whincup has won the second of the day's races from ARMOR ALL Pole Position, followed home by teammate Craig Lowndes – another 1-2 for the team.

Whincup has an impressive record racing overseas in a V8 Supercar and the Circuit of the Americas is another one to tick off the list.

A battle unfolded for third behind the two Red Bull Racing Commodores, with Fabian Coulthard, Shane Van Gisbergen and Jonathon Webb fighting hard – though Van Gisbergen tried, he ended up running wide and falling back to fifth.

The top 10 was rounded out by Mark Winterbottom, Scott McLaughlin, Rick Kelly (who was also on a good run until the final laps), Will Davison and James Moffat. Moffat has shown consistent top 10 pace in his Norton Nissan.

Jason Bright's issues continued, the Team BOC Holden Commodore coming how in 21st – that will be a blow to Bright's Championship. He sat in fourth coming into the Circuit of the Americas event after his highlight win at the V8 Supercars' last international race in New Zealand.

The event continues with two more back-to-back qualifying sessions and two 100km races tomorrow, again with a compulsory pit stop during each.
