James Golding will replace Garry Jacobson at PremiAir Racing, the team has announced.

Golding will steer the team’s Subway Commodore from this weekend's NTI Townsville 500.

His start in Saturday's Race 19 will be his first as a full-time driver since the 2019 Newcastle 500.

He made his Supercars debut in 2016 as co-driver with James Moffat in a Garry Rogers Motorsport-run Volvo.

A full-time debut with GRM came in 2018 after two wildcard rounds and enduro starts in 2017.

He loomed as the favourite to replace Jacobson after Zane Goddard and Kurt Kostecki committed to their Tickford co-drives.

Golding was otherwise in line to make a third consecutive Bathurst start for Team 18.

Golding last raced full-time for GRM in 2019

However, his acquisition by Peter Xiberras’ team has Team 18 on the lookout for a new co-driver.

Team 18 confirmed prior to the Golding announcement that it no longer had him in its Bathurst plans.

Jacobson departed PremiAir Racing just days after the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown.

The 2016 Super2 champion remained with the team through its purchase from the Webb family by Xiberras.

Jacobson impressed at Albert Park with three top 10s, but had toiled through an otherwise fruitless campaign.

Golding, 26, has now been handed the keys to a PremiAir Holden, and is itching to get behind the wheel.

"I'm stoked to be joining the PremiAir Racing team as the driver of the Subway car for my long-awaited return to Supercars," Golding said.

Golding finished second in S5000 this year

"I'd like to thank everyone that has been involved in getting this deal over the line, especially Peter Xiberras for giving me the opportunity.

"I'm looking forward to working with everyone in the team, and I can't wait to get to Townsville.

"It feels great to be racing full-time once again, especially after what felt like such a long time away.

"In saying that, the break has given me time to reflect and re-focus."

PremiAir Racing Team Principal Matt Cook added: "We are very excited to have James join the team.

"He is a fast young man that comes to us with a wealth of experience and talent."

Golding will hit the track for dual practice sessions on Friday. Purchase your NTI Townsville 500 tickets now.
