Young girls interested in motorsport will be given more opportunities to get involved in 2022, with Motorsport Australia securing additional funding from the Queensland Government.

The FIA Girls on Track program has received a significant boost from the Queensland Government’s Active Industry Project Fund, with Motorsport Australia set to extend the number of programs offered in the sunshine state.

The free workshops are aimed at growing interest in STEM subjects and industries amongst school-aged girls, to increase female participation in the sector and highlight career paths within motorsport.

The free workshops include simulator and pit stop challenges, as well as STEM exercises and other motorsport-based activities.

FIA Girls on Track ambassador and Triple Eight Race Engineering co-owner Jess Dane facilitated launching the program in Australia, with the Triple Eight workshop set to host an event in July.

The financial assistance will also see the non-for-profit organisation support a senior women’s officials development program in Queensland.

Motorsport Australia CEO Eugene Arocca thanked the Queensland Government for the support.

“At Motorsport Australia, we are committed to increasing the diversity of our participants and making motorsport more welcoming for all Australians,” Arocca said.

“The FIA Girls on Track program has been very successful since we began running workshops and I am confident it will continue to grow.

“As for the development program, the grant will help us train and increase the number of senior women officials we have in Queensland.

“Assistance from State Governments goes a long way in helping us achieve our goal of increasing inclusivity and on behalf of Motorsport Australia, I would like to thank the Queensland Minister for Tourism, Innovation and Sport, the Honourable Stirling Hinchcliffe MP, and the Department of Tourism, Innovation, and Sport for this generous grant.”

In Australia, the Girls on Track program is backed by Motorsport Australia and Driving Solutions, offering girls a unique opportunity to participate in the free Girls on Track events.

Programs are run across the country with 13 events planned throughout 2022.

The 13-event 2022 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle in March. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
