The return to Symmons Plains next weekend will feature a tweaked qualifying format.

The rural Launceston venue will host next weekend's NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint.

The Symmons Plains circuit, at 2.4km, is the shortest on the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship schedule.

Part 1 of Saturday’s knockout session and the two Sunday sessions have been extended to 12 minutes, up from the usual 10.

It marks a change on last year’s Tasmania visit, which featured split qualifying.

The March 26-27 event, like the other sprint rounds in 2022, will use the Format 1 and Format 2 qualifying formats.

The grid for Sunday’s two sprint races will be determined by the final classification of a single qualifying session.

The grid for Saturday’s race will feature three-part knockout qualifying.

The second practice session will be followed by three-part ARMOR ALL Qualifying for Race 3.

Sunday’s back-to-back 12-minute qualifying sessions for Races 4 and 5 will commence at 10:35am.

As was the case in 2021, the three sprint races in Tasmania will be 44 laps long.

The event will also be the first at which fastest lap bonus points will be on offer; however, drivers must finish in the top 15 to claim the extra five points.

Drivers will also race solely on Dunlop’s new Super Soft tyre compound for the first time in Tasmania.
