Carrera Cup to feature at eight 2022 Supercars events

The 2022 Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia will feature at eight 2022 Repco Supercars Championship events.

The 2022 Carrera Cup Australia season will be the first under its new championship status, and will feature the new Type 992 generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car.

The one-make championship will be the primary support category at major Supercars events alongside the Dunlop Super2 Series, which will feature at six events.

The 2022 Carrera Cup season will commence at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park, which will host the third round of the Supercars season.

The Carrera Cup season will resume in Darwin in June, before heading to further Supercars events in Townsville, Tailem Bend and Sandown.

As it did in 2021, the Carrera Cup will compete at the Repco Bathurst 1000, which will return to its traditional October date.

Porsches will then race in Surfers Paradise for the first time since 2019, before the season ends under lights in Sydney.

2021 champion Cameron Hill will not defend his title, having confirmed a Super2 deal with Triple Eight Race Engineering.

"After two seasons plagued by travel restrictions, we are delighted to announce our 2022 calendar which will see our drivers continue to race at the biggest motorsport events of the year," Director Sales and Motorsport Porsche Cars Australia Toni Andreevski said.

"Every season we strive to deliver a premium class experience for all our customers, teams and partners.

"With the prospect of 32 new 992 generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars filling the grid in 2022, the season will be arguably the best in its long and illustrious history."

The 13-event 2022 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle next year. Tickets for the event are on sale now.

The 13-round draft calendar was released during the Repco Bathurst 1000 weekend.
